It's the final countdown... to CUNA GAC!

Chief Executive Officer, AMERICA’S CREDIT UNIONS. Our mission is to advocate for and advance an environment where credit unions thrive.
1-month countdown to GAC!
CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference starts in exactly 30 DAYS! That means the final countdown is on to make sure you're registered. Whether you're a procrastinator or just aren't quite sure about attending, listen up!
We have a fantastic list of keynote speakers lined up for the mainstage, and this week we announced the final speakers that will join us: Platon, one of the world's most well-known photographers who uses imagery to create a visual language, and David Plouffe, the changemaker behind President Obama's two successful presidential campaigns.
CUNA GAC will have a breakout session for everyone, from the economy, to DEI, cyber security and compliance – plus how credit unions can serve the financial well-being of their members. There's also an incredible exhibit hall and tons of networking opportunities. And don't forget, you'll get to join thousands of other credit union folks on Capitol Hill advocating for our movement. But you have to REGISTER to be part of it!
Remittance changes should go further
We continue to engage the CFPB on its Remittance Rule and the steps it has taken to make thresholds more supportive of credit unions. Last year, the CFPB proposed to extend its threshold to 500 remittance transfers, but we think that should double to 1,000 and our latest letter to the Bureau outlines all our concerns.
Taxi medallion loans should stay with NCUA
CUNA, CrossState Credit Union Association, Illinois Credit Union League and New York Credit Union Association joined together to urge NCUA against selling its portfolio of taxi medallion loans. We all agree that selling the loans puts credit unions at risk, especially those that still hold these loans, and could damage the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund. This is a difficult situation, not least for credit union members that are directly impacted, and NCUA should work with CUNA and Leagues to do the right thing for everyone in our movement.
CFPB should mitigate TRID rule
We're encouraging the CFPB to make changes to the TILA-RESPA Integrated Disclosure (TRID) rule that would respond to concerns from credit unions that are struggling with the costs to comply. The bottom line here is the TRID rule has an outsized effect on credit unions and that limits consumers' access to more (and better) financial options from credit unions.
NCUA held first board meeting of 2020
NCUA considered several proposed rules at its January board meeting, including on M&A, subordinated debt and the loan rate ceiling, all of which CUNA commented on after the meeting. Many taxi drivers were also on hand to raise concerns with NCUA selling its taxi medallion loans. As always, we were engaged in the meeting and will work to keep credit unions aware of any developments.
