2022 marked a return to form for travel and tourism – and while there may be rising costs globally, it’s not stopping travelers from taking holidays and exploring the world

But while travel is back on the mapcards, the landscape has evolved, and brands need to cater to the new consumers’ needs of consumers, leaving travel brands to piece together what consumers want now and what will happen next.

How today’s travelers navigate the new normal can help you position your brand for success.

Here are the travel insights for 2023 that you need to know.

1.?Staycays are here to stay.

The world has opened up, and so has the appetite for traveling abroad. But this doesn’t mark an end to domestic vacations. 90% of consumers say they plan to take a domestic holiday in the next 12 months. The intent for travel has changed from being a once-in-a-year family trip to a constant need for relaxation, exploration, and inspiration.

2.?Wellness and improving quality of life and “Work from roam,” the new “work from home” is fuelling 2023 travel.?

Remote work allowed people to “work from roam,”, where they could virtually work from any corner ofanywhere in the world. This will enable them to work remotely, explore the world, meet new people, and get inspired. More lenient office policies mean many workers can travel anytime, even during busy workweeks, as long as they can hit deadlines from afar. That, in turn, has made it easier for people to travel more frequently and for longer, sometimes unlocking farther-flung destinations.

3. Gen Zs are going it alone.

After 2 years of restrictions, Gen Zs are after a bit of adventure. Over a third of Gen Z say they plan to travel by themselves, showing an appetite to be bold post-pandemic.

While Baby Boomers are much more likely than other generations to rely on past experiences.

60% of Gen Z say social media, whether in the form of ads or posts by friends/family or celeb/content creators, influences their decision about where to go on vacation. This indicates to brands that ads and influencers are a particularly effective way to engage with Gen Zs and promote their travel offering.

4.??Booking flexibility is non-negotiable.

Consumers are becoming increasingly wary of cancellations and delays. As such, when asked which factors were most important if booking a trip tomorrow, free cancellation/rebooking came out on top (38% said this). Covid restrictions and the recent surge in flight cancellations left many travelers frustrated and, in some instances, out of pocket.?

Despite travel restrictions being lifted, consumers aren’t prepared to give up the peace of mind that free and flexible booking policies afford them.?

Regardless of where you would be, one thing remains true - traffic is flooded with chaotic motorbikes. Crossing the road is challenging when motorbikes seemingly head towards you like an angry school of fish.
