It's not Facebook it's LinkedIn, it's not Tinder either? What is it?
Facebook was personal, then it created a business platform as well. So what is LinkedIn? I signed up 14 years ago, I have 27,000 followers and I am addicted. Why? many reasons including successful business transacted but also a great way to keep in touch with like minded folk and good friends around the world - indeed I have made lots of friends. Yes it is for business but also it is a family of many mostly good people wishing to communicate on a personal level. I have met clients, suppliers, advisors, leaders, followers, the most incredible people.
LinkedIn now has almost 740 million members with over 55 million registered companies. Of those LinkedIn users who are frequently engaging with the platform, 40% access it on a daily basis, clocking up over 1 billion interactions every month. (Source: Kinsta)
So the comments I see from people saying "this is not Facebook" or "this is not Tinder". Well first nobody in the world has the right to be the LinkedIn Police unless you own it - to comment on what is meant for the platform and what is meant for Facebook unless obviously inappropriate or highly political or personal offensive comments - nobody has the right to harass anybody, nor does it give the right for people to be rude or stalk in any shape or fashion. However we all have choices to act upon those ghastly Trolls and report them to LinkedIn immediately and block who we wish at any time.
I ramble on daily about my passion for using Modern Methods of Construction which will change the world, securing quality construction supply chain including Timber in addition. But what gets the most views? Personal stories including one at 65,000 views of a photo of me and lady friend encouraging people to create a legacy or the most recent post of an artist wrapping plastic round a tree and painting it which has attracted already 12,000 views last week in days - so many comments from people saying what a fantastic creation bar 2 negative comments - yes you always get them. It proves that LinkedIn is about human interaction, it started as an employment driven platform and has since grown, it's no longer just about jobs or business it's about 'people', collaboration, sharing experiences, learning, networking, and trading etc. Passing on sheer wisdom from all types of professionals including healthcare workers, Billionaires - you name it.
If LinkedIn doesn't interest you then don't use it, come offline. If you are ever feeling threatened or abused then report it immediately rightfully so but be mindful this is human interaction and sometime open to attract the wrong people, something that needs to be very carefully monitored, respected and will never be just business.
