it's easy to be wise after the event

hello—welcome back?to our newsletter!

As humanity moves towards a more eco-conscious mindset, sustainability is a topic that’s hotter than ever—and with the events industry regularly being voted as one of the most wasteful industries, we know more than anyone how much this shift towards sustainability is needed.

The problem is, it’s easy to be wise after an event.

After having plenty of post-event discussions over what could be done better, we realised that implementing sustainable practices can be intimidating for some. But we’re on a mission to help simplify the process so that companies such as yours can action the small changes that create a big (and lasting!) impact.

It’s something we explore in our latest eBook...

[poke here if you fancy a read]

It's also something we help our clients with directly, as while many may have some sustainability objectives for their events for waste conservation, carbon emissions, food waste reduction and plastic reduction, they might not have the specific knowledge of how and where to execute these differences.

But fear not—we do, so if you’re looking to create a more sustainable approach to your events,?get in contactand if not, let’s dive in and see what else is happening with the industry!

Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas?has announced huge plans to?remodel the?resort?

... with an estimated cost of around $100m!?

Being home to many of the top events and trade shows, including IMEX America which was held earlier this month, the venue will be upgrading its 2.1 million-square-foot convention centre to “reflect modern-day needs and create a timeless design”.

The planned improvements include redesigned spaces, a tropical ambience, and the addition of fine art in addition to technological enhancements such as super-fast internet, digital advertising walls, and 200 motion detection cameras.

This announcement illustrates the trajectory that the events industry is now on, with such massive venues making enormous investments in the space. However, we’ll just have to wait a little longer for this one, as the finished result is expected to be unveiled in 2024.

Inside emc3

Coming off the back of a super busy period, the past month at emc3 HQ has been one that we’ll look back on with fond memories. Not only have we created events for Google, Stack Overflow, CARTO, Peak, and Recorded Future, but we have also onboarded some incredible new clients, continuing our exciting run.

Internally, we have continued to expand our team, welcoming lots of new faces—with many more on the way. It's been a record year with recruitment and our expansion, and if you're looking for a new role.

But that's not all for internal news—as this month, we welcomed back our Managing Director, Stephanie Utting , who has been away on maternity leave after giving birth to her beautiful daughter Lily. The whole team have been thrilled to have Steph back, working alongside us and making our company calls even more enjoyable.

We also attended IMEX America in Las Vegas earlier this month. With our CEO ( Alistair Graham ) and VP of Growth ( Josh King ) hosting a marketing mixer where they got to meet faces, new and old, and discuss all things events. Including community-led growth, event technology, and sustainability. We host them semi-regularly, so if you're interested in attending, ensure you're following us on LinkedIn so that you can be the first to know.

Sustainability news

As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility, we have decided on 17 new goals that we will work towards, starting with the following three:

  • Responsible Consumption and Production
  • Good Health and Well-being
  • Climate action

To help us achieve these goals, we are collaborating with Onhand, a volunteering and climate impact platform that acts as an all-in-one tool to help engage employees in local volunteering and climate action.

Onhand does this by helping users to learn and take action, by sharing local missions they can get involved with and the climate impact of each—both at home and in their local communities. Such as helping somebody with their shopping, walking dogs, picking up litter, and making sustainable changes within the home.

There are numerous ways for users to get involved and for every mission completed, onHand will plant trees in some of the highest impact regions, allowing you to help your local community AND the planet as a whole.

As part of our partnership, we have created a dedicated workspace for the emc3 team within the app, where we can share our missions, see each other’s progress and even encourage a little healthy competition...
