Another meeting, another client, another perspective!
While explaining SEO & the best practices to be followed, I apparently made is very easy for client to understand, in my last meeting.. so easy that after the explanation client asked me, 'why should we hire an agency to do this instead we can hire an SEO guy on salary & get it done in-house'.
Fair point!
It would always be recommended for a small/ mid size firm too, to hire a person & get SEO implemented in-house.. if google stops updating its algorithm.
However, the reality is different. Google updates it's algorithm at least 500 to 600 times a year i.e. 40-50 times a month..
Yes, the majority of times these updates are minor but google can push in a major update too in between!
Like for an example, Google's panda & penguin updates literally shut the companies! Ranking parameters were changed overnight to improve relevancy score & so all the top ranking but lowly relevant websites were wiped off by the search engine. This was a massive change!
Other than this, keeping a tap on the day to day updates might also help us improve our rankings.
To make them understand this better, I asked their digital representative about the latest meta description character limit which he knew..
He was confident enough to claim 160- 180 characters
But he wasn't aware that the limit has recently changed & increased to 300 characters now.
I.e. you are now allowed to use 150 odd additional characters to describe your product in the meta description.. ask a content guy what kind of relief it is!
Being a small firm, If you hire a person or a team of 2 digital people in-house, they won't be in a digital ecosystem. They will be in your business atmosphere where there is hardly any digital talk happening! How are you expecting your team to be so updated while sitting in a non-digital lavish office?
I know all the firms are trying hard to become tech-savvy today but being digital savvy is an era yet to come!
An agency may charge you a penny extra but we know what has come & whats coming next in digital. We can take care of the external algorithms while you are focusing on your core product development.
And then certainly hire an entire digital team once you are in a position to give them the exposure they need!
Doesn't that make sense?
