But It’s Dry Heat

But It’s Dry Heat

Years ago, I was in Phoenix for business. My wife came with me because she had never been there. So, we added on a few days to the trip to explore the area after my meetings were over.?

We took a day trip to Sedona. It’s about two hours north of Phoenix. We heard about the beautiful red rocks and mystical energy in the Sedona area, so we jumped in the car and hit the road.

As we drove, we listened to country music and sang along at the top of our lungs with the windows down. Suddenly, my wife yelled, "Look, there's a roadrunner!" I turned to look. But instead of seeing the roadrunner, I felt a “thump, thump” as I swerved off the road and into a ditch.

Luckily, we weren't hurt, and the car wasn’t damaged, but the car was stuck. I tried driving out of the ditch, but it wouldn't budge. Just as we were about to call AAA, a group of cowboys on horseback rode up.

"Y'all need some help?" one cowboy asked.

Of course, we were grateful for the help. They tied ropes to the car and their horses. Sure enough, they could pull the car out of the ditch.?

We told them we were headed to Sedona and offered to buy the cowboys a round of drinks. They laughed, saying they would not make it to the “city” that day but appreciated the offer.?

When we finally arrived in Sedona, we went to a local bar – after that experience, which luckily turned out fine, we needed a drink. We ordered a few margaritas. We struck up a conversation with some locals who told us about a nearby vortex that was known for its healing powers.

"Let's go check it out!" my wife suggested.

So, we hiked up to the vortex and stood in the middle, waiting for the healing energy to flow through us. Instead, we all started feeling dizzy and nauseous.

"Maybe we shouldn't have had those margaritas before coming here," I said.

Despite feeling a little woozy, we laughed and went back to Sedona. We walked around a bit, bought some gifts and had an early dinner (I did not know you can eat cactus).?

We headed back to Phoenix, making one stop to get a closer look at some red rock formations.?

And this time, I kept my eyes on the road.
