If it's not broken, don't fix it
This is the final installment of my series of IC idioms for 2017. Please do share, comment or like as I am always keen to hear from fellow comms colleagues on how they view the sector too.
As IC professionals, we should always be challenging the norm. Personally I shudder every time I hear the words...
"But we've always done it that way" or "But it works".
I understand that it can be daunting and somewhat foolish to completely throw the... I nearly fell into another idiom myself there... but we should always seek to challenge ourselves and together give real thought as to how we can add more value and do things even better.
Nothing is perfect in this world and our internal communications are no different. Let's raise the bar whenever we can. Yes your comms may not be broken but it could be outdated and it could have cracks that are simply not yet visible. This is where measuring 'effectiveness' (see my previous article) is absolutely key.
I hope you have read these articles and it has given you food for... I really need to stop doing that! Personally, I feel that it's the responsibility of each of us to make comms within our organisations as good as they can be and push the boundaries as much as possible.
To paraphrase the amazing book by Marshall Goldsmith, 'What got us here, will not get us there.'
Thanks again for taking the time to read this short series and I welcome any feedback and thoughts you may have.

7 年Gordon - I agree with your blog. It's important to always say: Okay, it's good - but how can it be even better.

7 年It may not be broken, but a little bit of oil wouldn't go amiss at times. Thanks Gordon, enjoyed reading the series.
