It’s?Black Mental Health Week in Toronto, an initiative launched last year by TAIBU Community Health Centre, in partnership with the City of Toronto, addressing the Toronto Black community’s demand to end 400 years of oppression and the ongoing mental health impact of persistent, systemic anti-Black racism in all settings.
Black populations in Ontario are more likely to report stress and poorer mental health than others, but show remarkable resilience in the face of social factors, which are known to increase the risks of mental illness. Despite the clear increased need for mental health support in the face of adversity, Ontario spends less per person on the mental health of Black populations than white populations.*
