It's Been a Good Run

It's Been a Good Run

I have been writing this blog for over two years. If you are four years old like my middle son, whose name escapes me because he’s the middle one and it’s five in the morning as I type this, and that’s just how it’s gonna go for him, that’s half your life!

If you are 37 like me, those two years went by pretty fast!

For the last two years, I have been publishing on here at least weekly, and for a while, THREE times a week. It takes time, effort, and a healthy dose of ignoring my wife and kids, but I have kept to it. I tried to look up stats on how fast most blogs fail, or how many fail within a year, to make this “achievement” seem more impressive, but none of them were sourced well and all seem to come from blogs that at this point have failed.

And I want to respect you, loyal reader(s).

This project started as a way to keep the momentum of writing after publishing my 1st book. You may have heard me mention it more times than you wanted, Permission to Care: Building a Healthcare Culture that Thrives in Chaos. Like this blog, I have had many strangers who I will selfishly call fans say that it was “actually really good.” Thanks! Or, thanks? Anyways, I wrote one book, and had so much fun writing I wanted to keep practicing. All that practice led to this blog.

Oh, and a second book! Another one you have heard a lot about lately: I Guess I’m a Dad Now: A Humorous Handbook for Newish Dads Who Don’t Want to Suck.

One thing I forgot about with both books was the importance of marketing them. Or just being famous before writing them. Ok, I can’t say I forgot, but I never really learned until I saw those sales numbers and realized people just don’t buy random books from strangers. Even if they are now just peppered with 5 star reviews (AND ONE 4 STAR REVIEW THAT I’M TOTALLY NOT FIXATED ON) that just ooze “these books were good!”

Anyways, two books and “hundreds” (245 counting this one if you count when I started over on Substack) of these posts later, I still love writing. So much in fact that I have three more books in the works! A kids book, a midlife crisis guide for Millenials, and a guide for parents trying to stay sane in the world of youth sports-which by the way, if you have any midlife crisis or youth sports stories/advice, please send me an email or something! The latter two are going to have a comedic theme. Don’t you worry laughter lovers.

As for the title of this post, you may have figured out that I am bringing this project to a close. It has been fun, people seem to enjoy what I write, but I have failed to grow it, basically at all. And for those who say “If just one person reads this and it helps them, it’s all worth it!” I’d like to say that’s a terrible ROI.

So, if you have enjoyed these, I’m sorry to cut the weekly flow of Cory’s writing off. If this is the 1st one you’ve read of these in a while and have seen enough: you’re welcome!

I am still going to write directly, at least monthly, and you’ll be able to keep up with that via my email newsletter. Ethically, I won’t take all of your contact information from here and add them to my very humble email list, but if you don’t want to miss out, you can subscribe here:

As for what I’ll do with all this “time” not writing weekly? I am going to do something I should have been trying a long time ago: be funnier. The weekly “wisdom” is helpful to many, but if I want to call myself a comedian/pharmacist, I think I gotta do more of the comedy thing.

My newest goal is to write a joke every day. Soon enough, I’ll be sharing them on IG and X. I'll have some stuff here on LinkedIn too. Probably the less spicy stuff that is.

As for when, as I said, “soon enough.” If you haven’t figured out, I am kinda making this up as I go. But I think the truth is: so are most of us. And that’s ok. Let’s embrace the evolving entropy of life!

Perhaps I shouldn’t have waited until the end of ALL these words to say thanks, but, if you have read anything of mine, thanks! You have given me the most precious resource of yours: time. I hope you have gotten something out of it! Send a message or leave a comment with what you think. Hearing from readers is (mostly) always fun!

So, again, thanks for reading, and I hope I see you on my monthly (and sometimes more often) email newsletter soon!
