What's the disease responsible for more loss, death, destruction and heartache than cancer, drugs, and car accidents combined?
RATIONALIZATION....
The word which gives us the excuse to make stupid lazy decisions and ruin ourselves in the process....
I was in line at the gas station convenience store and a lady in front of me swiped her card for $1000....
She was paying for lottery tickets.
Appalled the customer checking out before her turned to her in rage.
"Where do you work"!!!!????
The gambler (yes, let's call a spade by it's name) turned around to her and smiled serenely. "Well, if I would go to Atlantic City it would cost me at least as much".
As we are all gaping at her she starts her mad round of scratch offs and Bingo! She wins $20.
Does she pocket the money now and start to recoup her losses?
NO.
She buys another $20 worth of tickets....
And LOGICALLY explained her view on life:
"You stand here doing this until you lose everything, or you never know, you might come home with something good...."
People, I could not have made this up if I tried....
And I'm thinking: Isn't this just a magnifying glass to rationalizations we all engage in?
Don't we overspend, under serve, lose an account and say: Well, we would've lost them anyway, or: The market just wasn't ready for us, or: If they don't want me, I definitely don't want them, or any other host of excuses.
Are we making excuses instead of treating our problems?
What do you think?

6 年Society is brainwashed into not thinking. We let others think for us. As in the propaganda that's showered on us in every form conceivable. Very sadly people are robots and so we are slaves unless we realize what's happening!

6 年Another name for this is addiction.? Then again, addictions are fueled by rationalizations.? Great analogy to 'normal' behaviors.?
