It's April! Here's How to Make the Rest of the Year Count

Astonishing but true, the first quarter of 2023 will be over this weekend.

That’s okay – we’ve still got nine months in 2023 to make incredible things happen – in your career and in your life outside of work.

Here are five ways to get more of what you want and deserve in 2023, and some action items to accelerate your progress!

Spend Time with the Right People

Pay attention to which people you spend the most time with. Try to spend more time with people who lift you up and make you feel better, and less time with people who drag you down.

The "people who drag you down" category could include old friends and even family members. You can love someone and still maintain a barrier around your emotional energy. It’s a critical life skill, in fact!

Practice Fanatical Self-Care

I tell my kids, “Feeling good is the goal.” It doesn’t matter how many items you tick off your to-do list if doing so leaves you a burnt-out shell of yourself. Your job is important but no job has the right to deplete you to the point that you get sick or can’t function in other areas of your life.

You deserve to get enough sleep, have enough unscheduled “me time” to recharge your batteries, and take care of your mind and body.

Get Altitude on Your Life and Career

You get altitude when you stop racing from activity to activity and give yourself permission to look at the big picture – the biggest picture of all, namely what you want to accomplish in your lifetime.

Give yourself permission to envision the life you want and deserve. You’ll always have a long list of tasks to complete. Put the list aside and ask yourself, “What do I want most?”

Please Yourself, not Others

We’d all be healthier, happier and more effective in our lives if we truly didn’t care what anybody else thought of us. ?Yet many or most of us were raised to care a lot about other people’s opinions. It’s a lifelong practice to reduce our dependence on the approval of others. It’s freeing and empowering, as every artist and convention-smasher will tell you!

Take a Risk

Doing what you’ve always done is a recipe for getting the same result you’ve always gotten. We’ve got nine months left in 2023 to step outside the box (and then rip the box into tiny pieces and make an art project out of it, or find another way to tell the universe and yourself, “I’m taking back control!”)

Gaining more power – personal power, the kind no one can take away from you – means taking risks. You can take small risks at first. You can say something that needs to be said but that has felt scary to say out loud. You can take a risk by showing a side of yourself that’s been hidden.

Taking risks is the best way to prove to yourself just how powerful you are. The sky will not fall, I promise!

"The connection to www.humanworkplace.com is not secure" We can have a useful talk (https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/using-linkedin-part-5-julian-dumitrascu) about data management. You'd be spending time with more of the right people for you. I live to support people's actions to increase their benefit-cost ratio.

I could not agree more, self-care is important and reaching towards what we really want out of life and making a positive impact now, and leaving a legacy that matters.
