It's not always about you!

In a world saturated with opinions, judgments, and advice, it can be challenging not to internalize the words and actions of others.
But, nothing others do is because of you!
Embracing this mindset can not only change how you perceive interactions with others but also how you see yourself.
We are all on our own journey. Yours doesn't have to make sense for others and theirs doesn't have to make sense to you.
Nobody is wrong.
Nobody is right.
We are all on different paths!
What others think, say and do is a projection of their own reality. And just like you, they are dealing with their hopes and dreams. Their life story, their past (or present) tramas, their limiting beliefs. When someone reacts to us, whether positively or negatively, their reaction is a reflection of their personal reality and not necessarily an accurate assessment of your character or worth.
Once we truly understand that concept, we become immune to the opinions and actions of others.
Easier said than done right? Of course! Because you are doing the same thing.
We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are. ~ Ana?s Nin
When people say or do something, they are showing us how they feel inside
The mirror effect
Imagine walking into a room full of mirrors. Each mirror shows you as perceived through someone else's eyes. This vision is tainted by their past experiences, beliefs, and emotions.
In a room like that, it's evident that none of the reflections truly represent who you are. Instead, they show the mental and emotional state of mind of everyone looking.
That's how it is in the real world. When someone compliments you, it might be because your actions align with their beliefs. Same goes if they criticize or reject you. It could be due to their personal insecurities, fears, or limiting beliefs. When you truly grasp that concept, it'll be easier for you to detach yourself from the roller-coaster of external validation.
Emotional freedom
Think for a second how liberating it would be to simply not give a cr*p about what others think of you! The freedom of not carrying the weight of others' opinions. No more fear of judgment, no more fear of rejection because you get that "it's not about you"!

This emotional freedom will undoubtedly boost your self-confidence and an undeniable belief in your worth, regardless of external feedback.
NOW, I'm hearing static on the line. I hear you say: Isabelle, I cannot live my entire life not giving a f*ck about anybody?!.
Of course not!
This doesn't mean you should ignore or not care about what others say. Constructive criticism is extremely valuable for personal growth. However, by not taking it personally, you can assess feedback objectively. Extract what is beneficial without being bogged down by negative emotions.
How Can you do this?
Conclusion
The idea of "Don't Take Anything Personally" is not just a tool, it's a philosophy. It helps you be happier but it also help you understand others better. Everyone has their own feelings and reasons for doing things. When we remember this, we can build better and stronger connections with others.

1 年Great post Isabelle Fortin Once people become aware of several points in this post, it really explains a lot if things. I have this is my mind for so very long and first I was applying it just in my private life but when I extended this in my professional life too, it really helps me to deal with (mentally) sick people. Good for me, good for the team and good for the company environment!
