It's always good to believe

Hello! I’ve been on a LinkedIn hiatus for well over a year now. But with a Ted Lasso Season 4 reportedly under way, now seems like a good time to re-engage with a life update, building off one of my last posts, “Believe: Ted Lasso is a growth mindset master class.” As I like to believe that Ted surely has been following his own beliefs during his hiatus, I’ve continued to follow the smell of potential, embracing change, pursuing passions and purpose and finding new opportunities to learn and grow. Essentially, waking up every day letting me be me.

As mentioned in that last post, I’m still cooking and still writing — two personal passions. That’s led me to re-engage with another personal passion — photography. I’m pursuing a MFA at Maine Media , grounded in photography while evolving as a visual artist. I am grateful to be surrounded by a community of diverse, talented, creative, passionate people pursuing their own artistic visions. It’s a perfect complement to a similar community of talented, creative, passionate writers whom I get to work with and learn from at The Writers Studio.

As is often the case, new opportunities lead to … well, to new opportunities. I’m thrilled to have joined the board of CatchLight , an extraordinarily diverse, vibrant and purpose-driven organization striving to support visual storytelling and new models of journalism. This opportunity would not have happened if not for my embrace of photography and Maine Media, where I met Catchlight founder Nancy Farese, a fellow native Southerner and Bay Area neighbor, who in turn introduced me to the amazing Elodie Mailliet Storm , Catchlight's dynamic CEO.

Catchlight perfectly complements my ongoing work as a member of the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media foundation board, my early career as a journalist, and my career-long passion for great storytelling in all forms. It expands the ways I seek to give back, including my more than a decade of service to the Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose , where I am currently board chair and dedicated to supporting the vital role this stellar San Jose organization plays in igniting the joy of learning and discovery in children.

?I hope my LinkedIn friends are likewise finding ways to pursue their own passions and purpose, and that you will share here to inspire us all. Meanwhile, I’m looking forward to spending time again with Ted and team in Season 4. It’s always good to believe. ??????

Happy to see you’re pursuing new experiences and evolving as an artist! Inspired by our CTO, I invested in a new flute and started playing again at the beginning of this year. I’m getting ready to go to my college homecoming this coming weekend and march in the alumni band. Yes, I am a marching band geek!
