When working with our clients, a common question is how can we be the most cost efficient with our budget while also still obtaining the home of our dreams? There are really easy, minor adjustments that our estimating team can make that can help you save $50k to $100k without compromising the integrity of your dream home.?
How? “It's always in the details,” Garrett, our VP and Head of Estimating says. “That's the beauty of working with a Design Build company. We can work hand in hand with our designers in order to give you the style and finish you're looking for while also keeping the budget front and center to the project.” There isn’t one giant way to minimize cost, but there are a million little ones. Looking at all the little details can really help you save money when it comes to building your home. An example of adjusting the details is finding more economical flooring. A simple selection change of flooring can help you save up to $10K just by picking a different material that looks the same but just comes out to a different price. Some even bigger dollar savings come from the design. In fact, more cost savings come from good design than any savings from selections. For example, we recently looked at two different design options with a client, one being $200K more than the other one. What was the difference?? Better use of the topography and site conditions. That's just the tip of the iceberg on the savings from good design.
“The budget is ‘death by a thousand cuts’ but in the same sense there are a lot of opportunities to scale down and cut back and still have a spectacular house,” explains Garrett. “That's the benefit of us being Design Build; we can work together with the designers to maintain the integrity of the house. That’s called Value Engineering. By working closely with our design team we can Value Engineer the home to both save money and create the masterpiece home you're after.”
