IT'S ALL ABOUT WHICH WAY YOU LOOK!..

In a recent stint at an entrenched yet failing NBFC giant in an emerging economy nation, my key stakeholder and coachee (who is one of the vertical heads within HR) has been hired specifically to do a complete overhaul and revamp of his department, per se the ongoing business transformation directly from the M.D.'s desk.

As part of the stringent investigation cum appreciative inquiry, we have identified that to aid the much needed innovation and transformation to support business success and aforementioned business transformation project, we need to -

  • challenge the status quo; break the invisible silos across regions & within same regional teams; and build new skills via cross skilling and upskilling

And we have this amazing team wherein each member is equally or more competent, owing to their thorough business understanding, similar skill set and long vintage within the organization. And only difference is their hierarchical designations.

Per se the new vision, strategy and proposed new ways of working, I asked a question to my three regional managers comprising this aforementioned amazing team. One answered, "Huh? I am just a manager." The other replied, "I will find out."

One answered, "Huh? I am just a manager." The other replied, "I will find out."

Same responses come from the two interns (who were from same school, similar grades and same geography) in a similar situation at a different organization wherein one said, 'Huh? I am just an intern!' while the other intern replied, 'I'll find out'.

Over the time, the personnel who said that I WILL FIND OUT, have -

  • flourished at work as well as in life developing new skills
  • continue creating success stories at work and
  • derived more job satisfaction, motivation, happiness and better life ahead

Hence, the take away here is 'never be limited by your title or what you don't know at work or life either'.

It's the difference between a great impression or being forgettable!

It's the difference between "HUH" and "I'LL FIND OUT" !!
