"It's All So Simple"
Dear Friends,
What if not everything had to be so hard?
This week my guest on the What’s Essential Podcast was Sheri Salata: Oprah's right-hand woman for 16 years at The Oprah Winfrey Show.
There was magic in this episode for me personally because without knowing of my upcoming book, Sheri said, "The last year at the Oprah Winfrey Show was easy, we were in-flow, it was effortless." More on that in the show.
We also talked about one grieving mother whose son had recently died after a long illness. She was with him at the end. She had got up next to him on his bed to be able to hear him and to be close to him. He said to her, "Oh Mom, it is all so simple. It's so simple, Mom." And then he died. Those were his last words. That was his singular message to her and to us. In the end, when we see our lives in perspective, perhaps we will all understand, "It's all so simple."
How can you apply this right now?
Ask yourself, "How am I making things harder than they need to be?" When you have your answer to that question you will have something of great value: you will know what to do next. It is as simple, it might just be as easy, as that.
Thank you, for spending this minute with me.

4 年Compelling story and a good reminder to be honest with ourselves and our needs: between losing our minds and acting like everything is fine, we all need support. I know I dared to reach out to friends/ coaches to keep my mental sanity. And that allowed me to give back and support others in return. There is no magic, only daily practice to keep our balance. And your stories remind us that in the end, only what is essential matters.

4 年I loved this episode. I didn't want it to end! I even bought Sheri's book after listening. Such a beautiful and inspiring conversation. Effortless effort has been so much in my contemplation lately as I try to build a new life after losing my job last March. Thank you for this. So looking forward to your book, too.

4 年Greg, what a valuable service you bring to the modern world. Exactly a year ago I lost the love of my life to cancer... in a very compressed, short time. His word, at his departure from this physical world, was “Easy”. Can’t wait to read “Effortless”.

4 年When I ask myself,?"How am I making things harder than they need to be?"?my focus is on the harder. So I ask, how can I make this simpler? Am I doing what I’ve always done or just some variation on the theme? Have I succumbed to a monolithic entity and forgotten that everything that has a front has a back and thereby failed in making an important connection? If you’re stuck you’re stuck in a belief system. You feel stuck because you’ve done what you’ve always done and its not working anymore and you’re still doing it. You’re still doing it because you think you should. But what you must do is see the world differently so that you show up differently. When you do that, you open up a space to create results unlike anything previously experienced.? As a minimalist, I was able to make the connection to becoming an essentialist as well. That changed how I see the world and helped me progress and see results I had not imagined. I cannot wait for April 27th and the new book Effortless to come out!
