It's all about the small stuff.
So the top 1% made trillions of dollars in profits. Did it really affect our daily lives?
Wasn't it the small immigrant couple who discovered the vaccine for the pandemic?
Isn't it the local group of families who gathered up donations and made up boxes of groceries for those who could not afford them?
Aren't they your city's doctors, nurses, emergency teams who came to your neighbor's door when she called an emergency?
Isn't it my state's underserved fire department that bravely battled the widespread California fires, and still come to duty everyday with a smile?
Aren't we all ordering from the local restaurant down the road and getting take-outs so he can keep his doors open?
Didn't those teachers at your local school do a drive-by to cheer your son or daughter while they acclimatized to school-from-home?
It's all about the small stuff.
When global supply chains strained under the pandemic onslaught, it was a small company that delivered a very unique supply chain risk mitigation solution.
When most sales teams were grounded, we were almost buried under the request for content: small, engaging, and humorously human content that our clients' sales teams could use for engagement.
When work-from-home started being enforced, it was a small managed services company that offered free Teams implementation and 3 months of hosting for prospects.
It's all about the small stuff.
This election year saw unprecedented number of voters come out and vote: from inner cities, from Native reserves, from densely gathered immigrant populations.
Numerous small businesses went completely online, even while large box companies struggled to get out of leases and scythed headcount.
At Purplepatch, we actually increased headcount by over 30%. Greg Fawcett and I launched FutureChain, and are grateful to see a huge surge in supply chain podcast.
It's a great time to be small. It's all about the small stuff. Gratitude, faith, optimism.
As my friend Dilip (now that would stoke him no end, and he will post most cat pictures) says: Onward! Upward!
2021: bring it on.
Happy holidays and be safe. Wear your mask, stay indoors, and don't forget to wash your hands.
