It's all about the pants
Over the last several years it's been all about the pants.
How so?
The Iron Man can help explain....
Over the recent holidays I was watching The Avengers with my boys. In the middle of the film I had to hit pause. “Take a look at Tony Stark in that suit!” (Sidenote, my kids are used to this type of thing...)
Waist up there are no big issues. The sleeves are a little long, but if that’s someone’s preference I’m good with it. But how about those pants!
I immediately googled “Avengers Film Release.” The answer? 2012.
So, while the suit coat is still acceptable in 2020 the suit pant presents a problem. The stark contrast (pun intended) between the coat and pant seems crazy. A clear example of what has been the case for several years….it’s all about the pant.
There are people all over the place attending important business meetings, funerals, weddings or galas in their suit or formal dress that look fine from the waist up. However, just like the Iron Man in this picture, the pant is a mess.
Flat front, pleats, cuffs, no cuffs, this is not a big deal anymore. What has to be dealt with is any pant with legs that could fit a cantaloupe out of the bottom.
While people have been updating their chinos and jeans and trousers over the recent years, and hitting it even harder on these updates because of the changes to casual dress, their suits have taken a backseat.
Be a step ahead.
Don’t look great for your casual dress and terrible for business or formal dress. Good grief. What message is that sending?
Get a few formal and more casual suits that have a beautiful cut in the pant. Look at it this way….you might not need as many suits as the old days. Take pride in the ones you do have. Don’t spend your time at important engagements hiding your legs under the nearest table.
