I was recently talking to a client that owns a sign company.
I had been working with him prior to Covid.?I was a bit worried about his business when the pandemic hit.?
His business took off. He got super busy. Businesses needed all kinds of signage such as signs saying stay 6 feet apart and footprints to show where to stand, etc.?
He got to the point where he said, Jeff, I'm so busy that I don't have time to be coached.
A couple months ago, he came back and said I'm doing okay,?but I'd really like to start working with you again.?
I said, tell me a little bit about your business.?
He said, well, I'm doing good. It's good enough right now. I‘m paying all the bills and everything else, but it's not quite where I want it to be.
I said, so tell me a little bit about what you're doing to get business in the door.?He said I really haven't been doing much at all. I have people coming in. I still have quite a few customers, but I want more.?

I said, remember back when we first started talking. What are some of the things that you implemented? What were some of the things you were doing?
He said, I had a tracking system for our lead indicators. I was tracking sales calls, I knew how many sales calls I needed to make before we got an order. I was doing emails and mailings to my customers.?
I was reaching out on the telephone to my best customers to see if they needed certain projects to be completed in the near future. I picked up business that way. I had a constant flow of business from doing these things.
I said, great you're going to go back to doing that. What do you think?
He told me that he was all in.?
These are some of the fundamentals of his business.?
It’s just like in sports. In sports there are fundamentals.?
In football for example you have blocking, passing, tackling, and kicking. These are some of the fundamentals. The football team that does these and executes them near perfectly has a very high likelihood of winning right??
It's the same thing in business. What are your fundamentals? What are the things that you need to do on a day to day basis in order to have success? Are you doing those things now?
I highly encourage you to sit down and spend some time working on your fundamentals.
I teach executives and business owners to have on-time to work on your business.
A lot of people in business don't take time to sit down and think about their business on a weekly basis. I personally like to do weekly reviews on Friday afternoons.
I like to uncover what went well during the week? What didn't go that well? What needs improvement in order to be better? ?
It's the weekly iterations that you get better little by little by little by little. Eventually you've made vast improvements in your business or practice.?
What are your fundamentals? Take some time. Whatever day you choose and write down those fundamentals. Put it in your calendar as an appointment. Determine what you are going to measure and start tracking them.?
