Aging is not equal to experience.

Experience is only one of the essential factors for being successful.

Once upon a time, there was one foreigner boss liked to hire older people with lower salary level, which was indeed against the law of value. He thought he had taken advantage of the deal to hire one senior experienced people with less cost.

Whether was he really the one who had taken advantage of the deal?

Facts speak louder than words.

  • The First One left within 6 months, moreover, this one was doing own business while working for the foreigner boss.
  • The Second One was asked to leave, because this person has mental illness, which became more and more obvious, serious, and even affected other employees so the foreigner boss had to ask this one to leave personally.
  • The Third One resigned after nearly 1 year, he barely brought any new business to the foreigner boss. The most ironic thing was his mouse had been breaking for the whole time being so it’s still a mystery how did he work with his desktop.

These are only three most representative cases but the foreigner boss never realized anything wrong with himself so the story never ended...

Actually this kind of case continue happening in our lives in the same, similar or different forms...

Aging Is Not Equal To Experience.

Getting Older is a natural thing Whilst Getting Experienced requires patience, effort, hardworking, persistence, accumulation, etc.

Experience is only one of the essential factors for being successful.

For being successful, we will need to consider more factors including

Experience

  • Normally you MUST have the qualified experience to win the role in the first place.
  • However, the other elements as below will decide your career path, career promotion and salary increase, etc.
  • Experience is something you have no excuse to say you cannot achieve. There is always more than one way to learn, to polish, to accumulate, to improve.

Personality

  • WHO ARE YOU?
  • Characteristics you hold as a person
  • Your belief for life
  • Your faith for people
  • Your Response in adversity
  • Your Idea of how to live through your whole life
  • …

What are YOUR PRINCIPLES to work with others?

  • Honesty, Integrity, Sincerity, Grateful are always the most fundamental characteristics, principles through our lives.
  • You are very special and important. We all have power (energy) to contribute, to pass the positive energy, to make our society a better one.

What is YOUR GOAL?

  • A goal you will keep working on through your whole life.
  • A goal for your personal life
  • A goal for your career
  • Shot-term goal and Long-term Goal

Whether have you Reviewed & Re-Evaluated Your Performance Regularly?

  • Regular review & re-evaluation provide you clearer Direction.
  • It helps us know better about our Status like where are we, what’s going to be our next focus, where will need more of our attention, etc.

What is YOUR MOTIVATION?

  • What will motivate you to move on especially when you almost want to give in?
  • Families? Money? Interest? Or something else more profound?

Whether Can YOU MANAGE YOURSELF (especially in adversity)?

  • Is it easy for you to feel ecstatic when everything goes exactly as you expected?
  • Is it easy for you to feel angry when you are in adversity?
  • Do you have problem to manage your emotion for the above situation or similar situation?
  • For many people this may be the most valuable lifelong lesson to work on from now, this moment.

Whether Does YOU HAVE THE VISION for future?

  • We like to divide our plan to short-term one and long-term one.
  • Do you have long-term vision for your life and career, or you just observe things’ development from a static point of view?

Personality gradually form from upbringing environment during which parents play a very important role. To some degree, personality seemed rooted in our mind and almost impossible to change.

Nevertheless, Strong Will and Continual Hardworking can help us conquer the obstacles look like impossible.

Working Style

  • Whether do you have the proper working attitude?
  • Whether are you eager to grow?
  • Whether are you proactive?
  • Whether are you flexible?
  • Whether are you willing to take more responsibilities?
  • Whether are you efficient?
  • ……

Communication Skill

  • How to express ourself in a proper way and effectively communicate with others are very critical to success.
  • For many people this may be another most valuable lifelong lesson to work on from now, this moment.

Team Work

  • Cross-team
  • Cross-function
  • Cross-countries
  • It is always not that easy to balance interest and relationship.

English

  • English Communication Skill plays a very important role in MNC, especially for thesmall-middle size (10-50 / 50-100 employees) MNC.
  • Many middle level candidates are stuck because of poor spoken English.

Lucky

  • This is not decided by us but I wish all of us good luck.

Physical Fitness

  • There are some people who just cannot work hard because of poor physical fitness.

One Inspiring Case:

I used to work with one candidate (let’s call this candidate A) highly potential to win the position but sadly we didn’t make it happen because A gave it up in the middle of the process.

However, A came back to me about 2 months’ later full of regret but the position had been closed.

In this case:

  • A has the highly matched profile (almost perfect) for the position.
  • A’s salary was a bit higher than my client’s budget but lower than the marketing level.
  • A had been out of job for 2-3 months when I approached A.
  • A used to work in well-known MMC but in A’s latest work experience A worked in one local company so A hoped to be back to international platform.

From the very beginning, I was very honest with A about the tight salary budget but I was confident my client would increase the salary level to meet A’s expectation and I explained to A why I had the confidence. (completely based on my knowledge for the client, the case’s situation and also my search for the position)

  • I tried my best to assist A to get the position, I analyzed everything for A such as My client’s brand history & international background, A’s high potentiality (almost 90%) to win the role, the position’s long- term career path in the international platform, how to prepare for the interview, etc.
  • I kept A updated about client’s feedback.
  • I told A that A could always come to me whenever there’s any confusion.

Nevertheless, A gave up the position for one offer from a local company which was totally against A’s original expectation to be back to international platform.

A only confessed A had worked in the local company for several days when I tried to arrange A to have interview with my client, though A promised me A would let me know if there was any potential offer.

From A’s point of view, I understood A desperately needed a new job, so I still tried to analyze for A about the current situation, tried to convince A to have the interview with my client and I would help A explain the situation to my client. I hoped A would not miss a great opportunity.

But A rejected me relentlessly, A did not believe my analysis any more, A thought the interview was troublesome and purely a waste of time, A didn’t believe the client would increase the salary budget, etc.

After listening all these, I stopped convincing A for I realized I never truly knew A until that moment.

My client felt disappointed A couldn’t continue with them because they intended to offer A. (As I expected.)

Finally the client hired another candidate from my shortlist and they did increased salary budget to win the candidate.

Until now, the offered candidate is still happily working with my client.

I happened to know A had left the local company in a very short time, it seemed like A was still looking for a new great opportunity.

There is always one reason behind the  failure.

Time will prove everything for us.

You are right with your opinion that experience is not the only one for success. But it can help a lot. Special in case to set up new thingsand if needs new ways.
