It's 10 PM...Do You Know Where Your Children Are?
As the Tampa City Council is getting ready to vote January 25th on a possible curfew for youth under 16 years of age I find myself remembering this slogan: It's 10PM...Do You Know Where Your Children Are? WKBW in Buffalo, where I am from, used this slogan as a Public Service Announcement nightly to introduce the evening news. It obviously was to help remind parents to make sure their children were safe at home after dark. It was used from late1960's until the late 1980's and it sometimes featured celebrities stating the question.

We at Character GPS support a youth curfew as proposed and properly implemented. The frontal lobe of our brains are not fully developed until the age of 25 so our underage children are not always capable of making the most informed decisions, they still need someone older and wiser to help them make healthy choices.
This proposed curfew comes on the heels of the violence in Ybor City on October 29th where two people were killed, one of which was a 14 year old.
The victim's family supports the proposed curfew as does Mayor Jane Castor and Chief of Police Lee Bercaw .
The City of Atlanta has implemented a curfew AND the City Council voted unanimously to resurrect the familiar PSA:
We hope the curfew is implemented AND the media joins in to help our community! Imagine some of our local athletes saying the phrase on tv whether it is a Buccaneer, a Ray's player, a Lightning player, a famous person like Tony Dungy and the list could go on and on. Who would you want to see on tv saying this slogan, who would be a compelling figure, someone that parents respect and know. We would love to hear your ideas!
