We talk to channel bosses, indies, freelancers and suppliers to the content-making world every single day. Here's a flavour of what we're hearing - a kind of industry health check if you will.
Here's what freelancers?are saying to us:
- Recent email to our team: "I wanted to thank you for making the?socio-economic status part of your application. Even now, as someone with 20+ years of experience in the industry, it made me feel seen, like my life experience matters. I'm sure it will make others feel the same way." Such a positive email to receive from one of our candidates. You can?update your profile with us here.
- "It does feel a bit busier, but I know I'm up against hundreds of other applicants."
- "The schedules on our shoots are insane - but we're so grateful to be working." Burnout alarm bells, anyone?
What our clients (prodcos, agencies, broadcasters, streamers)?are saying to us:
A mixed bag to be honest...
- Some are reporting a definite?uptick - our friends at boutique kit company?LegitKit have been sending out to location left right and?centre. Bigger production companies are flat out shooting the likes of Squid Game: The Challenge, and smaller ones like Tern and?Optomen announce commissioning wins.
- Others are finding that although there's more traction with?comm eds having woken up (or more like budgets jumping out of bed to the 2025 alarm), beyond the quick decisions, the pipeline is still looking dry.
- Longer term strategies of diversification are coming to fruition, like Brighton based TV indie?Middlechild launching a YouTube channel with Alan Titchmarsh, new indie JetSet TV being launched to make purely advertiser funded travel programming, and US production outfit Wheelhouse agreeing a deal with UK-based podcast firm Goalhanger to adapt the latter’s hit show, The Rest is History.?
What team TP are discussing:
- A flurry of jobs in the past 2 weeks has been encouraging - we've enjoyed being able to speak to more of you about specific roles.
- Being a tiny team now (see our sad?TP news below), we're working on how to make sure we still communicate with you in a timely manner. We are so sorry if we are a little slower than we'd like.
- It seems that broadcaster / streamer approved candidates are busy and moving from one project to the next. They really need to be opening up to experienced talent who have yet to work for them, or their lack of contacts will affect everything (and everyone).
- Peanut Butter sandwiches. Divided the team somewhat.
Maybe it's not huge news for the industry, but it is for us - and we want to share this with you.? Our wonderful Talent Exec
Katie Bright
, who has been with us for more than 6 years, is leaving her role after we - like so many companies - have had to make difficult decisions in this climate. Just thought we'd say it how it is.
We'll really miss her and thank her for being such a big part of TP since very nearly the start. Wishing her love and luck in whatever's next!
