Bridging the Gap: AI, Cybersecurity, and the Future of Data Protection ???

October 2023 is the 20th year of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and, oh, what a difference twenty years has made in information technology. Bluetooth, Facebook, electric and even driverless cars, 3D printing—all advances that have become part and parcel of our everyday lives in the past twenty years.

It’s no wonder October was chosen to raise awareness for cyber security. We’ve entered the Twilight Zone, where all of our vulnerabilities are being unmasked by artificial intelligence and new issues are taking shape before agencies know how to prepare. While organizations are busy training staff on how to identify phishing emails (the ones with the typos), AI can generate emails that are more believable than those drafted by humans. Today’s AI-generated attacks can even emulate voices like your grandmother’s or your network engineer’s and more easily manipulate humans into succumbing to requests, whether they are direct threats for money or routine requests for codes.

?? With a comprehensive understanding of your IT environment and diligent management of your data, learn how you can make the most of AI without any frightening surprises, knowing you’re doing the utmost to protect your agency from malicious threats. Read the full blog here. ??

Meet Derrick Weaver - Director of Information Technology ????

Meet Derrick Weaver, Director of Information Technology
Derrick Weaver, Director of Information Technology

Tell us a little bit about yourself. My name is Derrick Weaver and I joined IntelliDyne in 2021 as the Director of Information Security.

What do you think makes IntelliDyne a great place to work? IntelliDyne’s values of Inclusion, Integrity, and Service have developed a work environment that is hard not to love. The company values each employee and gives everyone the opportunity to grow professionally.

What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most? In my role, no two days are the same, and that is what I enjoy most about it. There is an old quote by Greek philosopher Heraclitus, “the only constant is change”. This is especially true in the world of information security, and I enjoy the challenge of keeping up with change.

What is one unique or fun fact that others may not know about you? I love to cook! Growing up, I worked in my grandfather’s Italian restaurant from time to time. When I became old enough, I was able to work as a cook in the kitchen alongside him and learn the family recipes that he had learned from his parents, who had immigrated to the US from Italy in the early 1900s. To this day, those are some of my most cherished memories of my grandfather, and I still remember many of the family recipes.
