What contractors need to know, now that the CMMC rule is finalized

The United States Department of Defense has finalized one of two rules for the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification System (#CMMC). This rule establishes the framework for the program, detailing how it will work and what contractors need to do. While this is a significant step, the second rule, which will operationalize the program through changes to the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS), is still pending.

CMMC compliance, while requiring effort, is seen as a beneficial step for contractors, even beyond the #DOD requirement. It aligns with good #cybersecurity practices and can help protect businesses from #cyber threats. The timeline for the finalization of the DFARS rule is expected to be relatively quick, potentially as early as the end of the first quarter of 2025.
