Italy awards PodMarket's Pende design

It's hard to believe, sitting in this Melbourne winter, that in three weeks we will be off to Lake Como's summer.

There's so much to do in Australia right now. We have a passivhaus build going up (first slab last week), and so many building and furniture projects in both design and proposal stages. It seems like the wrong "time" to go to Italy. It wasn't really planned. Harry (Director, pictured) applied for the A'Design Awards and next thing we knew (after a lot of hard online application work), we were being awarded a Silver!

Well, Italy is the home of good furniture design and manufacture, and we are very keen to see what is going on there. In Australia, we only see the results of the furniture design and manufacturing industry in Italy: Italian brands have long dominated the beautiful furniture stores in Church St, Richmond, Victoria, just around the corner from our own PodMarket showroom.

So it's very exciting for us Aussies to have our efforts recognised by the Italians. True, the Germans also have amazing design credentials. And, true, the Germans have awarded us with both a Good Design Award 2018 nomination, and an Iconic Awards Innovative Interior Selection. But this is our first Silver. And our first from Italy.

So thank you to the Italians for setting up an objective, thorough assessment process. It meant that the heart of our design, as well as its technical aspects, could be recognised and valued.

To us, good design should make lives better. Or, do no harm. This is the ethos that drives us whether through building, furniture or other product design. Design things that tread lightly.
