Italian Wines - Prizes and Prices

In these last few weeks, I have been able to look at a few articles that have created a list of the best wines from their point of view. I will not discuss the way these lists are made or how the points are awarded. What I was really surprised by , as an Italian wine aficionado and player in its commercial field, is the average price Italian wines seem to position themselves in respect to bottles coming from other countries. Are the bottles coming from certain areas of the world really worth the average price mentioned ? Why do most Italian bottles are valued at a lower price. They cannot be considered of lower quality since they seem to obtain high points from the tasters. Are Italian producers asking too little ? Or do they ask less for their product fearing they may not sell ? Or are the wines coming form other parts of the world over valued (in monetary terms only) ? Unfortunately, I think it is an image factor. An aspect that most Italian producers are unable (or unwilling) to understand correctly how much their product is worth and do not have the right means or channels to promote, communicate and ultimately sell their bottles correctly. What should it be done to get Italian wines on the right tracks so it is better recognized in the world ? Long road ahead but we will find a way.
