The Italian Interpreter London March Newsletter

The Italian Interpreter London March Newsletter

I feel like the year is moving along so quickly, it is hard to believe?March?is here already.

At the time of writing we are all heart-broken about the Russian invasion of Ukraine.?????

Our thoughts are very much with those who are in Ukraine, along with our friends, colleagues and the interpreting community who are so much affected by these unconscionable events.

For me, March brings with it hope for longer, brighter days and the joy of moving into?spring.

This month there is so much to look forward to.

Let's explore together.

Happy reading!

On celebrating women

March is a month in which Italy along with the rest of the world celebrate women, with International Women’s Day falling on the?8th March.

Known as?La festa della Donna, this day in Italy has a symbolism more reminiscent of Mother’s Day. A feature of the day unique to Italy, is that often women – as well as men – gift flowers to important women in their lives on this day, marking their colleagues and friends’ achievements, and as an act of solidarity, recognising the impact that they have made along with their value in society.

The Italian tradition of giving the bright yellow?mimosa?flowers started as far back as 1946. They were chosen partly because the mimosa is one of few flowers to be in full bloom at this time of year, and certainly in Italian towns and villages on this day the glorious bold flowers are resplendent. And with mimosa stems being readily available on numerous market stalls for around €1 a stem, there is no excuse not to present a bloom or two to a special woman in your life!

If I can come by a mimosa stem in London on March 8th that is always a joy, but failing that, I like to celebrate the day with a slice of torta mimosa – a cake made with Grand Marnier and a fluffy crumbed sponge topping meant to mimic the glorious yellow of the blooms.

There are many fabulous women whom I’d like to honour on La Festa della Donna, I am so fortunate to meet such inspiring women in my work.

Do you know that more than 140,000 companies were established by all-women teams last year? (RoseReview Progress Report 2022 ).

How will you mark?La festa della Donna, and who will you honour?

Working with all clients, small and large

Whilst much of my work is corporate, recently (possibly due to changes in regulations following Brexit) a large proportion of my work has been with individual clients requiring?certified translation services .

Taking an individual client through the journey to Italian citizenship, or to becoming an Italian homeowner, is a really positive experience and an aspect of my job that I truly enjoy.

As a member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL ) and International Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters (IAPTI ), I provide certified English to Italian and Italian to English translations of personal and official documents for individuals and companies.

A?certified translation?is a translated document with a certificate of accuracy.

With certified translated documents, I sign, seal, and deliver a certified translation with my personalised stamp on it to prove my credentials. This translation can always be traced back to me, which gives my clients peace of mind as I’m accountable for my work, which means it’s always fit for purpose and of the very best quality.

I am partnered with two notary publics and an Italian law firm based in London so my clients can rest assured that I have the specialist contacts to progress your application at a timescale that works for them.

When clients first reach out to me for my certified translation services, they are often intimidated by the legalities and unsure of the process. I receive a great amount of joy from helping people from the start of their journey through to completion, and am here to help every step of the way. From wedding certificates to passports, university applications to house purchases, you can be assured that I have experience in all these areas and am happy to help!

“Thanks for making the process of applying for Italian Citizenship a bit easier! The translations required were dealt with speedily and professionally and prices were competitive. More importantly, Luciana, you were very friendly and willing to talk about other aspects of the application which gave me more confidence in the whole process. Thanks for helping me steer my way through the Italian bureaucracy. I would have no problem in recommending Luciana to family, friends and colleagues.” -Paul Raffaeli

I have seen a surge in demand for this service recently, so if you require certified translation I can happily talk you through the process from start to finish.

MCE Expocomfort 2022 & Simultaneous Interpreting Services

I recently worked with the Ita London Italian Trade Agency (London Office representation at Italian Trade Commission) at their press and industry conference promoting the forthcoming 42?MCE Mostra Convegno EXPOCOMFORT? organised by?RX Global .

In large, corporate events, it is usually standard protocol to provide?simultaneous?Italian to English/ English to Italian?interpretation?which enables the interpretation to happen in real-time, letting events run as if all attendees speak the same language.

I was happy to provide this service at the?MCE Press & Industry conference?held remotely by Zoom on 25th February.

I interpreted the welcome address for the following speakers and moderator:

Welcome speech

ITA Agency, Giovanni Sacchi - Director London Office

Italian Embassy in London, Mr. Massimo Carnelos - Head of Economic Section

ANIMA Association, Mr.Bruno Fierro - VP for internationalization

Reed Exhibitions Italia, Mr. Massimiliano Pierini - Managing Director

Moderator: ITA London Office, Mr. Filippo Mansani - Head of Innovation

Simultaneous Interpretation?plays a prominent role in my career, and it is wonderful to work with such esteemed colleagues. The Italian Trade Agency has also been working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation showcasing a wonderful new campaign recently called?Be IT .

If you haven’t come across this initiative yet, I would absolutely recommend perusing the website, and also subscribing to the feeds on Instagram and Facebook. I

t really does show the brilliance of the people of Italy, their wonderful country, and the expanse of culture in Italy. (Whilst writing this I feel very proud of being Italian!)

The?MCE Expocomfort?is taking place from June to July 2022 in Milan, and will focus on showcasing renewable energies, technologies, solutions and systems, expecting to attract over 100,000 visitors.

Alongside the physical conference, this year it is also possible to attend the conference?virtually, with a new digital platform set up to enable visitors to meet and network remotely, too.

Interestingly, though, a survey by MCE (Mostra Convegno Expocomfort) of participants registered for this year’s conference, showed a strong preference in attending the event in person, enabling visitors to see and touch the products and meet the vendors face-to-face.

Let’s hope this trend can continue. I will be there. Will you join us?
