Ask people within the cybersecurity community if a talent and skills gap exists, and the answer will probably be yes. In fact, The Cyber Security Hub, a LinkedIn community of more than 1.5m followers,?launched a poll?recently: at the time of writing this, 76% believe that a skill and talent shortage exists.
But whenever I ask cybersecurity leaders?where?exactly?the gap lies, the responses vary – oftentimes, the answer is “I don’t really know.” Is it entry-level positions, mid-career professionals or CISOs? Or relating to a function – such as incident response, cloud security or security operations analysts? Or all of the above?
So today, let’s look at what industry research says about the cybersecurity skills and talent gap. We’ll look at a report that examines the gap specifically. We’ll also look more generally at the cybersecurity workforce. And finally, we feature a recent CISO compensation benchmark that shares the average salary of a CISO.
