Hello,
Welcome to the first issue of my new LinkedIn Newsletter, "Sharing the Big Picture". Issued fortnightly, the purpose of the newsletter will be to give you the tips, ideas and resources to help you to share your organisation's 'Big Picture' with your people.?If you have any ideas for topics and themes you'd like me to cover, please let me know! Why the 'Big Picture'?
It’s almost impossible to watch, listen to or read the media these days without hearing someone mention the importance of seeing or understanding “The Big Picture”. In our volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) world, now more than ever we need to be able to show how the moving parts of our organisation and our external environment fit together. This is even more important given the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Why is this? Well, we can no longer micromanage our people by just focusing on their inputs. Helping them to understand the outputs they deliver in context of the big picture is key. By doing so, we can enable them to adapt and evolve their contributions to our stakeholders’ constantly changing needs.
If you would you like to understand what the Big Picture looks like for your employees, why not try our our free "Pulse Check" Diagnostic tool?
Complacency and change
One of the biggest threats to any organisation is complacency. It’s easy to think that things are ticking along nicely so your strategies must be just fine as they are.
This complacency often comes from a lack of awareness of?external challenges, something all employees across any organisation should be aware of. These challenges are usually the biggest drivers of change and sharing them with employees is a positive first step to implementing this change.
So why are so many leaders reluctant to share them with their workforce? Do they feel the need to shield them from these harsh realities? Do they think that harping on about threats to the business will come across as negative or pessimistic?
Our recent blog?looks at why this is and how you can begin to allow your employees to understand the external challenges of your organisation, helping create a sense of urgency amongst them (click the image below to find out more).
