Desk Diaries
A glimpse into my coaching life
A fortnight packed with?client sessions, new enquiries, exciting development projects, and -let’s be real - a sprinkling of?frustration and expletives.
- In-person time has ramped up, with more half-day deep-dives than usual - business plans, career next steps, psychometric and self- insights - proper sleeves-rolled-up and thinking caps on work.
- New enquiries continue, but I’m noticing a shift – the topics and timescales are more varied, keeping things interesting.
- All my 2025 development plans are officially underway - including joining a?Business Mastermind?and restarting my?1:1 Coaching Supervision. All with brilliant people. Both have given me a fresh boost of motivation.
- Which I’ve needed, because a major?time-stealer?entered the room - HMRC and their terrible service levels. The key takeaway? We all have things in work that frustrate and drain us -how we manage our response is key.?(*Takes own advice… eventually!)
Leadership Lens
Hot topics from real life leaders
A mix of?career strategy, resilience, and the constant of change?has been front and centre.
- Career planning is a big focus - whether short or long-term, being?intentional about your next steps?makes all the difference.
- Being your best at work – linked to the point above, a key area we discuss is what helps you be your best at work – the formula that enables you to thrive at work, and therefore in all areas of life. I’ve written a 4-step guide on this very topic which you can find here – https://www.deborahbulcock.com/your-success-formula/
- Stress, working hours, balance – that perennial challenge – managing the stress load, keeping resilience high, and finding a balance that works is coming up a lot – reflective of work demands and long working hours right now.
- The constant of change - this isn’t going anywhere.?Leading hard-hitting change well and bringing people on the journey?remains a non-negotiable leadership skill.
Moments & Musings
Life beyond the desk
- Early Spring hope - I love that every year we?fall for ‘false Spring’ - a few days of?short sleeves, sunglasses, and packed-away jumpers - only for?winter to roar back with hail and snow.?It gets me every time!
- Lost in the garden - post-winter clean-up has begun. Not my favourite gardening task, but I get totally?lost in it for hours, which is undeniably good for me.
- Detox time - Spring brings a natural urge to?clear out, refresh, and reset - from garden to ?wardrobe. And continuing that theme, I’m soon heading off to a?retreat overseas?to detox body and mind. I. Cannot. Wait.

Best Brew
My favourite cuppa
Well this feels like cheating a bit – no tea or herbal infusion, but my newfound enjoyment of a blend that’s medicinal mushrooms, chai spices and cacao. I’m drinking it as a latte and it works nicely as my breakfast. It’s called MUD/WTR and I’ve been totally sold by the copywriting genius – it’s reminds me of Innocent smoothies right back at the start when we’d real the label for fun.
Referrals & Recommendations
A huge?thank you.?In my line of work,?referrals and recommendations mean everything, and I’m fortunate to have a?steady stream coming my way.
Whether it’s a?LinkedIn recommendation, an introductory email, or simply mentioning my name?when you think I’d be a good fit—it?all makes a difference, and I’m hugely grateful ??
