Issue 5 : October 2022

WE'RE BACK!!

After a 3 month summer hiatus #LetsTalkK8S is back with issue 5 and so much to talk about.

We've got:

Let's Start with the event, in association with Loft Labs

During his talk, Dan examined how time and time again new systems, platforms and operating systems have forgotten the lessons of the past and had to fudge functionality together in order to meet the demands of multiple users. He then brought us all the way to the present and the multi-tenancy problems we face with modern distributed systems (#Kubernetes ??) and how we can solve these multi-tenancy issues today.

If you are tasked to build an internal dev platform conformed by multiple Kubernetes Clusters you will quickly realize that there are tools that can be shared across all these clusters. Looking at tools like #Knative and #CertManager which are commonly used to provide cluster wide capabilities (TLS and Serverless features) Mauricio showed how by using #vcluster plugins a single installation of these components can be shared to save on resources and management.

It was great to have people together once again, thanks to Ashish Mishra for putting this together and trusting me with being your EU partner ??

Looking For Your Next Exciting Kubernetes Position?

Among all of the doom and gloom, there are very encouraging signs that #CloudNative adoption is still high on IT Leaders agenda. However there is still an insatiable hunger for more Kubernetes talent - a basic search on LinkedIn will give you more than 7,300 vacancies mentioning Kubernetes, ranging from Infrastructure Engineers, Engineering Managers, AE's and DevOps Engineers.

North America is still boasting the most K8S vacancies with close to 30%, Europe is second in the mid-twenties and 'remote only' comes in third with a low twenty score. That being said, IMO Europe will soon be #1 - just look at the investor optimism and the money FinTech is drawing in, it's hard to ignore these figures and we'll go into those a later in the newsletter.

How well do you know your employees?

Are you truly aware of how your employees perceive their work, or their boss, or peers?

Retention should be just as much as a priority as recruiting new staff, assuming you have talented people in your org already that is. What this graphic shows is that ££$$ is still at the top of the list for most, however it doesn't paint the whole picture. Behind this image are stats showing that the gap between #1, #2 and #3 has never been closer. The cost of living is increasing for everyone so there is a heightened sense of moving-for-money right now, but health and family time have massively cut the gap between what's important for people.

The marketing team at InterQuest Group work hard in pulling data from multiple sources, the above is just 1 page from a 50 page report highlighting tech salaries, projected economy growth, most in demand skills and what employees say are the factors influencing their performance.

Get in touch for a full report.

Thanks for making it to the bottom - see you next month ?
