ChatGPT Search Is Here - What SEOs Need to Know

ChatGPT's New Search Feature

Last year, ChatGPT radically disrupted how people search for answers online. With last week’s launch of ChatGPT search, they might just do it again.

OpenAI has added web search to ChatGPT, which can access real-time information to provide fast, relevant answers to your questions right from the chat interface.

Here are the key points:

  • Fast, Timely Answers: Users can receive real-time information, including sports scores, news updates, and stock quotes, without needing to switch to a traditional search engine like Google.
  • Natural Language Interaction: You can ask questions conversationally, and ChatGPT will pull the most relevant information from the web, providing contextually richer responses.?
  • Source Attribution: For the first time, ChatGPT will provide links to sources for its responses, allowing users to explore content from credible news outlets and other publishers.?
  • Access and Rollout: Currently available for paid Plus and Team users, however this feature will likely be rolled out to all users in the future.

The Implications for SEO: With the recent Google antitrust rulings and now this - search is turning into a completely different beast. New tools could mean we see a pivot away from traditional search engines.

As search behavior evolves, understanding how users interact/search with AI like ChatGPT can provide insights into optimizing your content strategy.?

It’s important to monitor how your target audience uses AI tools to find information.

Here’s how we’re recommending our clients prepare:

  • Optimize for Conversational Queries: ChatGPT encourages more conversational queries, and you can optimize your content to align with this trend. Think about phrasing content to answer direct, spoken-like questions. Incorporate a conversational tone in your content, like answering questions found in “People Also Ask” sections to boost its appeal for tools like ChatGPT. Keep in mind that many of the same principles of SEO still matter. Companies are already reporting they’re getting clients from ChatGPT and they’ll get clients from ChatGPT search too.
  • Optimize for Bing: Since ChatGPT relies on Bing for its real-time data, optimizing for Bing (not just Google) will become essential. How do you optimize for Bing? Keep an eye on WIN-Bound, we’ll be sharing tips on how to optimize for Bing soon.
  • Consider Elevated Privacy Concerns: ChatGPT doesn’t track users or bombard them with ads, offering a private experience that traditional search engines don’t. Privacy may become a major draw for users.
  • Develop Authority in Your Niche: As AI becomes a primary source, your content’s authority is crucial. Publish high-quality, experience-based content with your expertise front and center. Smaller publishers with specialized knowledge, agility, and authenticity have an advantage over large brands.
  • Diversify Your Strategy (Don’t Rely Solely on Organic Search): With AI-based searches offering new ways to reach audiences, diversify your channels. Consider engaging through social media, newsletters, and communities to maintain a diversified presence and drive traffic beyond traditional search.

These changes are just the latest pointing to a broader industry shift happening right now that I’ve been calling the “4 Horsemen of the Inbound Apocalypse”— where adaptation is no longer optional; it’s critical.?

As AI disrupts search and shifts consumer behavior, understanding and addressing these forces will help you avoid being left behind.?

My Key Takeaway

Adapt your SEO strategy to align with the AI-driven, conversational future of search. Create authentic, in-depth content that resonates with how users interact with ChatGPT search. By staying proactive, you’ll position your brand to remain relevant in an evolving landscape.

1,600+ Revenue Leaders Reveal the Secrets to Growing on HubSpot

Survey Reveals the Secrets to Growing on HubSpot

This year has undoubtedly transformed digital marketing. With the rapid rise of AI, shifting buyer expectations, and the evolution of traditional strategies like inbound, leaders in Marketing, Sales, Revenue Operations, and Customer Success are asking a pivotal question:?

“How can I keep up?”

In his latest blog post, “What’s The Secret to Growing on HubSpot?”, Jonathan Burg highlights critical insights that help answer this question from the 2024 State of HubSpot study.

Through this research, over 1,600+ global leaders from every revenue-driving function including Marketing, Sales, Revenue Operations, and Customer Success were surveyed.?

Here are some of his key takeaways that can help guide your strategy:

  1. Alignment Across Teams is Essential for Growth: The data shows GTM strategies are evolving toward more customer-, product-, and account-led models. The research asked, “Is HubSpot keeping up with these needs?” and the data is clear: yes. An overwhelming 96% of respondents say HubSpot effectively supports their GTM strategy. But, it’s not just the tool itself—it’s how organizations use HubSpot to align across teams to reach their unique goals that distinguishes top-performing companies from those still struggling to keep up.
  2. Diversify Your GTM Strategies: Only 10% of respondents report inbound marketing as their primary GTM strategy. The data shows a significant shift toward diversified growth strategies that include customer-led approaches and outbound sales. While inbound isn’t on its way to the grave just yet, the way it needs to be designed, applied, and measured has changed forever.
  3. Go “All In” on AI: With 40% of companies planning to increase their investment in AI - many are going all in on AI to work smarter, not harder. In last year’s report, respondents were still finding their footing with AI, but this year’s findings reveal many organizations are now integrating AI into their day-to-day operations, and already seeing a positive impact, especially in these specific areas: Data Analysis & Insights, Content Quality, Content Creation,Customer Service & Support, and Productivity.
  4. Personalize Your Content Strategy: A notable 71% of buyers expect content that speaks directly to their needs, highlighting the importance of tailoring your messaging to resonate with your audience.
  5. Help Your Buyers with Their Independent Research: Approximately 70% of B2B buyers engage in extensive research before reaching out to vendors. In response, revenue leaders are rethinking how they integrate inbound into their go-to-market strategies, prioritizing high-value, informative content that aligns with where buyers are in their decision-making journey.
