Highly unpredictable projections as number of overseas student applications to UK rises again

International undergraduate student applications to UK universities have risen for the second year, despite stricter migration rules. The increase, reaching 115,730 applicants, follows concerns over lowered admission standards. Universities fear potential declines in international student numbers could strain finances, exacerbated by visa rule changes and global competition. Efforts to ensure fair admissions are underway, but challenges persist, including declining applications for critical courses like nursing, raising concerns about future staffing in sectors like healthcare.
