Issue #19: .NET with a Touch of AI

Welcome to Issue #19 of the TechRel Hub Weekly - this one is another mixed-bag of insightful resources compiled from weeks of poking around the interwebs.

It's a thing this week's newsletter curator Ed Charbeneau has a talent for - just check the variety of interesting resources he brings to the Eat, Sleep, Code podcast on Twitch!

So let's see what curiosities he's prepped for you!

Hi, I’m Ed Charbeneau a Prin. Developer Advocate at Progress and a leading provider of application development and digital experience technologies.

If we haven't met before either in a previous edition of this newsletter, on Twitch, the Telerik blogs, or at a developer conference, here's a little background on me and my work.

I have over eight years of experience in this role during which I've passionately promoted the .NET platform. While my focus has been primarily ASP .NET, I am also proficient in HTML/CSS, AI, and Mixed Reality.

Now, let's get into the newsworthy pieces this week.

Facebook's newest innovation ??

You can’t open a news feed or social media without seeing a major headline involving Artificial Intelligence (AI). Meta was keeping itself at the top of the list by announcing an AI assistant. However, as the Zuckerberg makes a bold statement about Facebook's newest innovation - TheStreet?article outlines, Mark Zuckerberg’s quote could be controversial: "The bottom line is that we believe Meta AI is now the most intelligent AI assistant that you can freely use," Zuckerberg said.?

Your Guide to Uploading Files to ChatGPT ??

ChatGPT is evolving with the new ChatGPT-4 model. This model goes beyond the traditional prompt and now accepts files as an input.

This means ChatGPT can analyze PDFs, spreadsheets, images and more as a basis for “conversation”.? CNET's Guide to Uploading Files to ChatGPT (and Why You Would Want To) article discusses the how-to’s as well as mentioning security implications.?

Introducing .NET Smart Components ??

Microsoft is no stranger to AI and is looking for integrated solutions for developers to implement in their projects. One such experiment comes from the ASP.NET team in the form of “Smart Components”.

In the Introducing .NET Smart Components - AI-powered UI controls - .NET Blog?post you’ll find an experimental release that includes “smart paste”, semantic matching inputs and more AI powered UI components for Blazor, MVC, and Razor Pages.?

Learning Opportunities for AI and More ??

With all the AI news, you may be looking for ways to sharpen your skills. Good news is Microsoft's free Azure Developer Day is now available to watch - it includes all things AI and Cloud computing.

While upping your “back-end” tech game, be sure to brush up on the “front-end” of AI with Progress’ Telerik 2024 Q2 FREE Release webinar coming on June 3. You can save a seat?at the link below.

Now for a few non-AI items:

Refactoring with C# 12 ??

C# 12 in .NET 8 showed some amazing new features like primary constructors. Thankfully David Pine wrote a full article to help you understand its usage and impact. You can read it here.

How to Choose Your Next Blazor Template ??

Are you using .NET Aspire Starter App or Blazor WebAssembly Standalone App for your next #Blazor app? Hope this video helps you decide which template to go for next.

What's new in ASP.NET Core 9.0? ???♀?

There were quite a few notable changes in ASP .NET Core 9.0, but the Razor components support constructor injection, one of the new features for Blazor, excited me the most.

Supercharging Blazor SSR with htmx ?

My good friend Egil Hansen talked about Supercharging Blazor Server-Side Rendering with htmx on .NET Live. You should check out his session, especially if you are a front-end dev working with Blazor.

That's it from me for this issue. I hope you find it useful. DM me on social if you have questions or come say hi if you spot me at an event.

See you!

- Ed

Another great issue in the bag thanks to Ed! But that's not all - next week the TechRel Hub Weekly will be even more special, because we're dedicating the space to celebrate the Global Accessibility Awareness Day with a newsletter curated by Alyssa Nicoll and Kathryn Grayson Nanz.

Stay tuned for that one and until then - wishing you a successful launch of your newest, shiniest Blazor app (potentially) and happy coding...perhaps by using AI?

Till next time!
