John Lewis is reintroducing its "never knowingly undersold" price pledge two years after discontinuing it. The policy will now include online transactions and use AI to match prices with 25 leading retailers. This move comes as the retailer attempts to revive its fortunes and win back customers after a challenging period of job cuts and store closures. New managing director Pete Ruis sees this as a strategic shift, aiming to address customer perceptions about pricing and improve the company's financial standing. (BBC)
Ukraine aims to boost its agricultural exports as it seeks EU membership, leveraging its fertile land and significant crop production. Despite challenges from the ongoing war, the country has seen agricultural exports rise, representing 41% of total exports by 2021. EU integration could provide access to the common market and funding for reconstruction, but it also poses challenges, including competition with existing EU farmers and the need for policy reforms. Successful integration could enhance food security in Europe. (Think Tank, IDDRI, The Grocer)
Kevin Green of Logistics UK has written an article about the implementation of the Entry/Exit System (EES) in the EU, scheduled for October 2024. When snail mail goes bananas
Did you know? A banana once made its journey through the mail to a Taiwanese woman! The sender wrote the recipient's address directly on the skin, affixed a stamp, and even included a note to the courier: 'handle with care'. The fruit arrived safely, mixed in with the woman's regular mail. Talk about a-peeling delivery options! (Thanks to Speed Couriers for this fun fact! ??)
See you in the next issue!
