Amidst an evolving legislative landscape, the fashion and textiles industry are faced with the challenge to scale and innovate post-consumer textile waste management solutions

The fashion industry faces a critical waste problem. In the European Union , 12.6m tonnes of textile waste are generated every year, 80% of post-consumer waste ends up in landfill and 1.7m tonnes of used textiles are exported to countries in the global south that are unable to manage the large volume of textiles in environmentally-sound ways.?

There was an increase in 2023 in consumers using peer-to-peer resale and rental platforms, and more brands adopting circular business models (offering customers take-back schemes, repair and second-hand options) to extend the life of products. But more drastic measures are necessary to catch up with the rapidly increasing rates of post-consumer textile waste...
