If you got stuck, here's one way to solve it:

1. Ask yourself "Where's George?": Hopefully, the newsletter provided enough clues to tell you I was talking about money, specifically US banknotes. $1 bills have George Washington on them. Searching for some combination of these thoughts should lead you to the website wheresgeorge.com.

2. X-ray search that website. Using the site: operator, you can search pages on one specific website. Choose some keywords from the clue and it shouldn't take long to find the right note and the state it's been hanging out in.
