Part 1: Get Inspired?
It’s a mash-up of two content picks this week as we inch closer to the end of 2024:?
For those craving some light, yet insightful career-related advice:?
From the Fixable podcast, this recent Quick Fixes episode is a must listen. Frances Frei and Anne Morris offer honest and actionable advice on asking smart questions job seekers can ask to determine?culture fit and how work really gets down, plus how to tackle unproductive feedback at work.?
?
For parents who continue to struggle with navigating their children’s relationship with tech, this next one is for you (This seems appropriate this time of year as many of us top ponder whether to get a tech item from our tween/teen’s wish list).?
I’ve waited to close out my trend-by-trend discussion from Life Trends 2025 with the trend termed “The Parent Trap,” As the research explains:?
“One of today’s biggest parental challenges is how to help the next generation shape a safe, healthy relationship with digital technology... evidence of the negative impact of social media and smartphones is piling up, and while governments are pushing for protective measures, many parents and schools don’t feel the results are coming fast enough, so they’re mobilizing.”?
One company that captured my attention (in a good way) 2-3?years ago is Gabb Wireless. I first learned of them through interacting with their amazing CEO Nate Randle (who is a great follow here on LinkedIn). Gabb’s business model is offering safe phones and watches for kids. We started off with their watch ... and then transitioned to their Gabb phone 3 (It’s a locked down Samsung Galaxy that offers clean music and a limited set of apps (all cleared by the parent). ?
How about you? What companies and brands are you watching in this space??
?

Part 3: Tapping into the power of your network?
As we near the end of 2024, I want challenge all in my network?to carve out time to thinking critically about our networks and what actions we want to take in 2025 to invest in cultivating those relationships. ??
Earlier this year, I was introduced to several tools and concepts to assess and diagnose my professional network. Some are a little dated, but the value still applies so I wanted to share:?
https://hbr.org/2005/12/how-to-build-your-network - Includes tools for mapping and diagnosing your network, as well as watch outs for proximity and similar biases.?
?
I typically include shout-outs in this section each week... but this week I want to hear from you in the comments. Who are your favorite people to follow on LinkedIn and why??
Thanks in advance and catch you next time...?
