Valentine's day has come and gone, leaving behind in its wake a myriad of feelings - love,?regret (they really didn't mean it when they said, "let's just forget about Valentine's day this year"), a headache from too much chocolate, wine, or the overly pungent bouquet of flowers that are now sitting on your kitchen counter.?
Whether you are all in on this official day of love embracing the flowers, chocolate, and adorable stuffed animals that come with it,?or?shirk it as being a day contrived by cardmakers and confectioners to make even the coupled amongst us feel obligated, guilty, or both, we could all use some relationship advice from time to time. So?what follows is some day-after?cupid’s day advice to consider that might help deepen or rescue existing relationships or help you find new ones,?regardless of your current amorous status.?
Thanks, as always to Heath Dingwell for helping to curate?the links shared below.?
WHAT'S THE BIG IDEA?
Tips for Better Relationships
We've all been talking (read:?obsessing) about how important?relationships are to business growth. And no group more so than Marketers responsible for fueling that growth via content and experiences. But as with so many things, we get distracted by the new customer, campaign, and content and forget about those that have been around for a while. In doing so,?things like trust, respect, and cooperation that had been built up wither on the vine and, in some cases, die.?
Darren Dalh gives some great (and easy)?tips on how to build (and keep) better relationships.
Good Relationships Rely on Discretion
Just about any relationship worth having comes with an expected baseline of confidence that what is shared won't get repeated or sold for personal gain. Even though 3rd party data is going by way of the Odessey and Betamax, companies are still getting busted for?selling their customer's data on the sly. We've been talking about how best to find the?balance between customer data and privacy?for years, yet some still struggle. And the loss of 3rd party data use should help companies?walk on the right side of the privacy line, I'm not confident it will solve the problem.??
Trust Above All Else?
"Without trust, words become the hollow sound of a wooden gong. With trust, words become life itself."? ~ John Harrold
We, as marketers, communicators, and brand advocates, ultimately seek trust from those we connect with. For some,?the payoffs take longer than others, but ultimately, taking the time to build trust pays off.?

Relationship?marketing?relies on building trust, and?trust starts with the storyteller. So as we look to build our stories and experiences for?the next big holiday campaign,?perhaps for?National Sticky Bun Day?(Feb 21 - and a personal favourite), we can recenter ourselves and put trust as a primary goal?for our content efforts.?
