Welp, it's Groundhog Day. Again.
A perfect time to launch the inaugural version of our new newsletter. ??Funny thing - research shows that Punxsutawney Phil's prowess for predicting the weather is worse than flipping a coin. Data says we shouldn't listen. But we do.?Data says we're late to the newsletter thing. But we did it anyway.?
Now wait! Don't go yet!?Here's what we got!
Last year we launched our?Experience Advisors'?Community?(and they're?all here too). We - to put it into Ghostbuster terms - crossed the streams. And so this new?TCA Content Strategy newsletter, has become? The Experience:?The fortnightly newsletter for our Experience Advisors Community.?You're all invited to join our Discord?Community?where we have monthly live meetups, trade valuable links, and mostly bitch about all things related to content and digital experiences.?
But if you're shy - or just hoping for something valuable to arrive in your inbox every two weeks - you can just stay subscribed here. We don't promise genius. But we do promise you that every two weeks we'll send you lots of interesting, groovy things that you'll want to read, share and can hopefully make you think a little differently about the business of content.
Okay - with all that said, let's get to this week's big ideas... The Algorithms strike back!!
Who Will Put the AI in GAInful Employment
Well AI just seems to be getting more and more and more front and center for those of us who deal in content, even if it seems that all we're interested in is?how they can paint us?like we were one of their French girls. Even as I use Dall-E-2 to generate "a groundhog in the style of a comic book hero", it's?amazing that a?1923 cartoon eerily predicted?that machines would make art for us. Everybody seems to be experimenting - even?turning countries into supervillains.?This is no doubt going to be the year of funding AI startups. Just this last week?Character Chatbot?started walking around asking folks?for $250 million.
Optimizing The "Learned Helplessness" of Algorithms
Speaking of algorithms,?check out this interesting new podcast?where the latest episode talks about how Silicon Valley CEOs are hiding behind data as they make cuts to employment.?It tees up this post from Seth Godin beautifully who has an interesting post talking about the?differences between platforms and curators. He says that the platform mindset (of a LinkedIn, or Facebook) is "learned helplessness". In other words, the algorithm is in charge of the experience, not them. The data decides. It's an interesting take, and the part that interests me most is that he says ultimately this mindset leads to platforms being banal, and then trashy. To me it does seem that we may see a renaissance of "human curated" platforms - that specialize in slow roll promotion of content. You know... kinda like this newsletter.

Life Moves Pretty Fast!?
If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.?With that inimitable wisdom from Ferris Bueller in mind, we have some thoughts too.?Check out our take on?the future of AI in Content Marketing. Combine that with?the current state of Content Marketing in business, I think you'll see why we think it's gonna be a great year.
