Israel’s Crimes Against Humanity in Gaza

Over the past 13 months, Israeli authorities’ conduct in Gaza has led to the displacement of over 90 percent of the population – 1.9 million Palestinians – and the widespread destruction of much of the territory.

Israeli forces have demolished homes and civilian infrastructure. They’ve killed Palestinians along escape routes, bombed so-called safe zones, and cut off access to food, water, and sanitation. And the evidence shows that displacement has been systematic and part of a state policy.

Human Rights Watch?has found that the result of these actions is the massive, deliberate forced displacement of Palestinian civilians in Gaza. The report also finds Israeli authorities responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity.?

WATCH: Israel’s crimes against humanity in Gaza

HRW published this 154-page?report?as Israel’s ongoing military campaign in?northern Gaza has likely created a new wave of forced displacement numbering hundreds of thousands of civilians. For this report, we interviewed 39 displaced Palestinians in Gaza, analyzed Israel’s evacuation system, including 184 evacuation orders and satellite imagery confirming the widespread destruction, and verified videos and photographs of attacks on designated safe zones and evacuation routes.

One man we spoke to said he feared leaving his home because he thought the Israeli authorities were trying to seize the territory. “Once I heard the evacuation order to go south, my first reaction was: I'm not leaving. It is not an option to leave everything I have worked for … but then the bombs started and our houses were being destroyed, I needed to protect my family. This is why I finally left,” he told us.

There is no plausible imperative military reason to justify Israel’s mass displacement of nearly all of Gaza’s population. As the occupying power, Israel is obliged to accommodate displaced civilians. Instead, authorities have blocked all but a small fraction of humanitarian aid, water, electricity, and fuel from reaching civilians. Israel is also obliged to ensure the return of displaced people to their homes as soon as hostilities in the area have ceased. Instead, it has left swathes of Gaza uninhabitable.

No one can be in denial that the Israeli military is committing these atrocity crimes. Governments should adopt targeted sanctions, and governments supplying the Israeli military with weapons should stop, as they are handing Israel a blank check to commit even more crimes as well as putting themselves at risk of complicity.

#Menschenrechte #Menschenrechtsverletzungen #Gerechtigkeit #Gleichberechtigung #Solidarit?t #HumanRights #HumanRightsViolations #Justice #Equality #Solidarity #Frauenrechte, #Kinderrechte, #LGBTQ, #IndigenousPeoples, #Migrantenrechte #Diskriminierung, #Ausbeutung, #Gewalt, #Freiheitsberaubung, #Zensur, #Umweltzerst?rung #UN, #Amnesty, #HumanRightsWatch

Israel’s Defense Against Terrorism: The Human Shield Dilemma "To be prepared for war is one of the most effective means of preserving peace." – George Washington Israel faces the dual challenge of defending itself against terrorism while minimizing harm to civilians. Terrorist groups exploit human shields, a war crime under international law, to provoke global outrage and undermine Israel's defense efforts. A recent survey revealed: 72% believe human shields should be classified as war crimes. Only 38% know about Israel's warnings to civilians before strikes. "We use missiles to protect our people; they use people to protect their missiles." – Benjamin Netanyahu The fight isn’t just Israel’s; it’s a global call for justice and accountability. Let’s work for a world where peace and human dignity prevail. What’s your take on balancing defense and ethics in such conflicts? @Pastor Avinash Singh, New Delhi, India ??
