Israel Blue Black History Month Spotlight
We continue our Black History Month celebration by hearing from another SGH team member. Today’s spotlight shines on Israel Blue. As a member of the company since 2000, Israel’s current role at Cree LED is Customer Service Representative under the leadership of CaTina Blake and Angela Creech. Below she shares advice, ideas and resources for Black History Month.
Why is it important to celebrate black history month?
Black history is American history and it’s important to highlight the many contributions to our country.
How does SGH practice diversity and inclusion?
SGH practices diversity by celebrating & welcoming the many cultures of our society.
What resources would you recommend to someone looking to learn more about Black history?
Your local library can be a rich source of information about Black history. North Carolina is home to many Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Their libraries are open to the public as well events. The National African American Museum of History and Culture in Washington, DC is a great resource of Black history and is four hours away.

Why do you think the theme for Black History Month 2023, “Black Resistance” is relevant for today’s climate?
The theme of “Black Resistance” addresses the disparities and oppression that we’ve overcome.
What is a moment in Black history that you wish more people knew about?
The Royal Ice Cream Sit In on Roxboro Street in Durham which included black students from NCCU on June 23, 1957.
