In 2019, iSPARX released Ruatoki, an AR art exhibition and multi-media experience launched by Maori artist and activist, Tame Iti. It depicts the events that occurred along the “Line of Confiscation” during the 1860’s, in which Tuhoe land was brutally confiscated by the New Zealand Crown.

Using an array of visual and audio elements, Ruatoki effectively demonstrates the capabilities of this intersection between immersive technology and Maori Kaupapa.

These examples illustrate the ways in which iSPARX offers a developed concept of disruptive Kaupapa Maori Innovation that internalises the principles of digital Taonga.?

They follow a methodological framework titled ‘Indigenous Blockchain’ that aims to align technical processes with cultural protocol.

This methodology is centred around information security and the decentralisation of governance — two fundamental qualities of digital Taonga.
