Isolators and Barriers are often used to separate components such as sensors, transducers, etc. from one "area" to another "area". Some are used to isolate system that run off of different power sources (often optical isolation). Others are used to separate hazardous areas (explosion proof) from "safe" areas. These barriers allow for devices in the XP area to be connected to systems in a safe area (such a transducer in XP area to PLC in safe area). GEA offers a variety of barriers for many applications!
