Isolation for Health, Community for Wealth

We are living in unpredictable times, and right now, it is critically important that we stay home and isolate to help slow the spread of this virus.
However, from a business standpoint, isolation can be incredibly dangerous. So how do we help our businesses while adhering to the important self-isolation protocols?
Government leaders and health officials have recently implemented measures to ensure that social distancing is being followed. Businesses are being locked down, non-essential travel has been banned, and people are being told to stay home. In this current environment, it is critically important to self-isolate and stay home to help slow down the spread of COVID-19.
While self-isolation is important right now for our health, it can be incredibly dangerous from a business standpoint. If we cut ourselves off from our market and our clients, our businesses will suffer. I believe it’s equally important for business owners to belong to and stay in touch with a community during these times (in a digital, online format in the short-term).
So, as business owners, what can we do to support our business during these times of necessary self-isolation?
In Napoleon Hill’s classic ‘Think and Grow Rich’ he says that “analysis leads to paralysis”. He goes on to say that one of the biggest inhibitors of success is a lack of or delayed decision making. Part of the reason for this is a lack of trust with the conscious mind’s ability to make a decision. This distrust of oneself can be incredibly debilitating to any business. It will lead to negative mind chatter, fear, and self-doubt, all of which are amplified during times of uncertainty.
In these moments, one of the best things we can do is to trust ourselves and follow our gut. We can’t wait for the market to change before we make decisions. We need to act now. We need to be diligent around cutting back areas in our business that are unnecessary. Imagine a tree in Autumn, shedding dead branches and leaves as it prepares for the harsh conditions of Winter. That is where your business is right now. You need to shed non-essential resources in preparation for what’s ahead.
However, it’s important to note that shedding away the dead weight gives life to new possibilities and opportunities. Cutting back will allow you to take stock and analyse your business so you can identify areas of opportunity that require more development and investment. I would encourage you to consider investing time and resources into the following two areas:
1. Reinvent Yourself
Now is a great time to reinvent yourself. Analyse your business and find ways to create more assets that will allow you to differentiate yourself in the marketplace. You could even develop a new model of how you’re working to solve new problems for the community that you serve - because new problems are going to arise in the coming months.
2. Find a Community
It’s important to find a community and join an environment that you can be a part of during these difficult times. Connecting with like-minded individuals will facilitate an environment of collaboration and support. It’s cathartic to hear stories of how others are navigating the same challenges that you’re facing. Sharing the journey with others, bouncing ideas off like-minded business owners, and having a source of positivity and resilience is going to be essential.
It’s incredibly important to self-isolate for your health and the health of others. It’s equally important to belong to a community that you can lean on for support, collaboration, and encouragement.
Self-isolation for health, community for wealth.
When we emerge from Winter, Spring is going to present a ton of opportunity to those who are prepared. If you stay focused now and get ready for that Spring period, you will be in a prime position to capitalise on the boom of the 20s.
