ISO TC 251 Asset Management Plenary Session

ISO TC 251 Asset Management Plenary Session

This week we take a quick break from the foundational asset management thinking series to cover an important event that occurred last week.

Last week the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and the US Technical Advisory Group (US TAG) on Asset Management hosted a plenary session of the ISO Technical Committee (TC) 251 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.?The purpose of this plenary was to review standards that are being developed.?This was the first face-to-face meeting of ISO TC 251 since the start of the COVID pandemic.?The previous face-to-face meeting was in Quito, Ecuador in November 2019.? Since this meeting ISO TC 251 started work to update three standards and initiated three others.?Three and a half years later all six standards were balloted across the draft international standards (DIS) threshold in Philadelphia.?This was a major achievement for the hundreds of people who contributed to their development.?A synopsis of each is as follows:

After a few years of working virtually on the development of these ISO 550xx #assetmanagement standards, it was certainly great to meet colleagues in person as we put finishing touches on the next set of proposed updates!

Congratulations and thank you to all those involved for the effort put in to the evolution of these standards. An excellent closing statement too: “This wave of updated and new standards will expand the scope and benefits of asset management’s ‘what’ and ‘how’.?This “potential energy” is then converted into “kinetic energy” when coupled with an organization’s ‘why’.?It is this combination of the ‘why’, ‘how’, and ‘what’ that leads to realization of value from and through assets to improve organizational performance.?These advancements are especially important given the world’s collective need to make better use of limited resources and capabilities that when used to generate value are called assets.” #assetmanagement #infrastructure #facilitymanagement #sustainability #value
