You might have heard the word ISO Certified. Let us explore what it means in healthcare.
First, let’s try to understand what this ISO-certified means and how we have relatively better confidence in ISO-certified products. It all goes back to 1946, almost 75 years ago, when delegates from 25 countries met in London to discuss standardization in every product, process, and procedure.
Later in 1947, the ISO was established with the idea of adopting the way of doing things relating to our daily lives. So far, 168 countries are ISO members. They work collaboratively to establish standards for product development, delivering services, and supply of goods and materials globally.
Of course, the next question is where ISO standards are applicable and who are consumers of their implementation. As you can imagine, universal standards are required in every walk of life. However, ISO standards are mainly applicable to manufacturers of products, people who buy, customers using ISO-certified products with high confidence, and, of course, sellers and regulators having peace of mind that ISO-certified products or services are always in compliance with universal guidelines.
Now a day, we know that over 800 technical committees are working day and night to develop new and refine existing standards. So far, above 24000 standards have been developed by the ISO, and the list keeps growing. Here is an example of a few:
ISO 9000 series standards applicable to quality management by companies and organizations
ISO 45001 is related to the occupational health and safety of workers at workplaces. Organizations compliant with these standards are considered the safest workplaces.
