ISO 14224:2006 & IBM Maximo?

Greetings!   ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies. ISO 14224 was prepared for Materials, equipment and offshore structures for petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas industries.

In the petroleum, natural gas and petrochemical industries, great attention is being paid to safety, reliability and maintainability of equipment. The annual cost of equipment unreliability is very large in this industry. Hence failures data, mechanisms and maintenance related to these facilities and its operations have become of increased importance.

ISO 14224 recommends minimum amount of data that is required to be collected and it focuses on two main issues:

1. Data requirements for the type of data to be collected
2. Standardized data format to facilitate the exchange of RM (reliability and maintenance) data between plants, owners, manufacturers and contractors.

The following main categories of data are to be collected:

• Equipment data eg equipment taxonomy, attributes
• Failure data eg failure cause, consequence
• Maintenance data eg maintenance action, resources used, downtime
