Greetings! ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies. ISO 14224 was prepared for Materials, equipment and offshore structures for petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas industries.
In the petroleum, natural gas and petrochemical industries, great attention is being paid to safety, reliability and maintainability of equipment. The annual cost of equipment unreliability is very large in this industry. Hence failures data, mechanisms and maintenance related to these facilities and its operations have become of increased importance.
ISO 14224 recommends minimum amount of data that is required to be collected and it focuses on two main issues:
- Data requirements for the type of data to be collected
- Standardized data format to facilitate the exchange of RM (reliability and maintenance) data between plants, owners, manufacturers and contractors.
The following main categories of data are to be collected:
- Equipment data eg equipment taxonomy, attributes
- Failure data eg failure cause, consequence
- Maintenance data eg maintenance action, resources used, downtime

Failure Data- Maximo Oil and Gas includes standard failure code data for oil and gas assets based on ISO 14224. The failure codes can be loaded directly into the Maximo table structure for Failure Class and Failure List. The failure class, problem, cause and remedy hierarchy is represented by this data.
Maintenance Data - Maximo Oil and Gas includes following application/modules/functionality to provide standardized maintenance data-
- Management of Change (MOC) Management-module devoted to the approval and management of Management of Change requests.
- Location Details- Operating Context, Regulations etc.
- Work Prioritization Matrix- A matrix based system of work or risk prioritization to identify work priority.
- Conditions for Work- Provides guidance as to when work should be completed on an asset, a group of assets, or even an area or location within a plant, facility or pipeline.
- Defect Reporting-Documents an asset that deviates from desired operations.
- Investigations-Addresses an unresolved incident or defect, to record lessons learned from an After Action Review, or to record the results of Root Cause Failure Analysis.
- Downtime Tracing- Provides ability to track downtime data against asset and helps to track cost the downtime, MTBF, MTTR etc.
