Isn't it a bit lonely?

Isn't it a bit lonely?

“Isn’t it a bit lonely?”

“Don’t you miss being part of a team?”

Running a business can be a lonely yes, for sure.

Being a co-founder and having a partner in crime to meet with, bounce ideas off, show up with and laugh with, like I have with Polly Crook and?The HOW People?is the most amazing thing ever.

But we both have our other projects going on in our lives too.

Helping Medics start personal brands and businesses is something I have been doing as a ’side hustle’ myself for the last 3 years but in the last year it has really taken off and I am loving it.

But, I work on my own a lot and do it from the end of my computer wherever we are in the world.

That was a big part of my ‘why’ when I started thinking about online business.

To be able to work from the top of a mountain or the middle of a rainforest while travelling and homeschooling the kids.

So, is it lonely?

No, not at all.

Because relationship building and PEOPLE are at the core of business and I just love the people that I meet, work with and connect with along the way.

I have regular in person meetings with actual humans each day on Zoom.

This week for example has been an awesome week, in contrast to the disaster that was last week.?

Monday

- Rachel Harington (our first ever business coach) came into the community to host a Masterclass 101 on 'Selling without Sleaze'

- Meeting with the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine special interest group for schools about getting some fantastic The HOW People resources into schools as part of a free resource

Tuesday

- My own group coaching call with the awesome Gemma Gilbert and her community, Amplify, who have helped me really get going with my own programme. An incredible group, learning, sharing and supporting each other

- VIP 1:1 session with Sui Wong, Consultant Neuro-opthalmolgist who is setting up an online group programme for Migraine sufferers focusing on lifestyle changes

- I recorded my first 'proper' Podcast with the lovely Dr Emma Presern , Rebellious Health which is currently on You Tube if you would like a listen?Link here.

Wednesday

- 1:1 session with Dr Sundus Hussain-Morgan a Lifestyle Medicine GP in Singapore running her own clinic and working on her online presence

- An actual IRL meeting with my PA Karina talking about our up and coming offer ‘Let’s Get Visible’ which will offer a digital presence package, landing pages, website, branding and newsletter template to doctors wanting to take themselves onto social media. Please hit reply if you are interested. There will be very limited availability and we will open a waiting list shortly

Friday

- Two discovery calls with lovely doctors wanting support in the future

- A zoom chat with Mark Steadman , The Podcast Guy about Podcast stuff

Plus lots of direct messages, messages with my business accountability buddy Tanya Lynch , content creation, a missed meeting by me because of time changes (I’m so sorry, Dr Ndubuisi 'Andy' Egwim ) emails to people and planning for HOW and coaching plus normal life admin.

There’s never a dull moment.

So, no, it isn't lonely in any way, shape or form.?

Happy weekending.

PS. The podcast is going to become a 'thing' but for?now here it is.?Emma Presern from Rebellious Health is my first guest. We talk about her journey from Powerless to Purposeful living as a Medic. She shares her struggles, wins, plans and hopes for the future. She is an awesome human.?

PPS. Wherever you are on your journey, you need others around you who get you and you need to know what to do next along the way. If you are feeling lost, stuck, fed up, overwhelmed etc just remember this is ALL new and you are not supposed to be good at it. You are not supposed to have it all figured out.?

If this is you then reply and let me know, if I can jump on a 15 minute call this month with you I will.?

This is what support looks like. It really, really matters. Portia Gibson Dr Fiona McHardy Dr Rosie Khan Dr Natalia Albu Dr Olga Morton and all you lovely lot.

I've connected with wonderful, like minded people through Dr Jo Watkins community, and through linkedin more than I have in a long time, back when I was working full time in GP. I actually felt quite disconnected and lonely back then, wondering if I was the only one who felt the way that I did, wanting something more from my life and my work. So it's definitely not lonely!

What a cracking session it was. Lonely is something I thought I’d feel since leaving my post in ED. But sessions like yesterday by the awesome Dr Claire Ashley and the community Dr Jo Watkins has created means we’re all so well scaffolded. So no, actually, I’m happy to say I don’t feel lonely either!

Sounds like you've had quite the week! Your point about loneliness really hits home. Today, I caught up with a 45-year-old retiree who's taken up gardening after selling his business for a tidy sum. He mentioned feeling a bit lonely. He shared that he left medical school after the first year to start an online business, which he eventually sold. Since then, he's been financially free, but he confessed that gardening helps him stay occupied and wards off the loneliness. It got me thinking—being an entrepreneur, even with a team, can sometimes feel lonely. But hey, that's life—full of choices and unexpected turns. Dr Jo Watkins Thanks for sharing. Can't say No to another meeting now! ??
