ISMCP Gold for Resilient Pilot

Resilient Pilot, an organisation with a mission of ‘Keeping Crew: Supported. Current. Connected’ can now add a Gold ISMCP Award to its list of credentials. Here we catch up with CEO Stuart Beech to find out more about why Resilient Pilot chose ISMCP as its excellence framework, and what went into their successful Gold application:

Can you introduce yourself and tell us a bit about yourself and your background?

Hello, I’m Stuart Beech CEO, and Co-Founder of Resilient Pilot together with Karen Bath. I’m also an A380 long-haul pilot, ex teacher and very passionate about providing continuous learning and development opportunities for our aviation professionals.

Resilient Pilot was launched in 2020. Can you tell us more about the company and?what you do?

We are a non-profit organisation born out of the Pandemic primarily consisting of very talented and dedicated volunteer pilots and specialist mentor/coaches who give up their spare time to support a full spectrum of global pilots and cabin crew. We just passed our 2nd?year anniversary attaining Gold Accreditation for The EMCC ISMCP by providing blended virtual mentoring, coaching and developmental training support for our pilot community. We have evolved to deliver our flagship Virtual Resilience Development Programme adopting a competency based approach to our blended mentoring, coaching and training methodology.

What was your reason for choosing the EMCC accreditation?

It was a really nice story actually. I had been researching accrediting organisations about a year ago that focussed not only on coaching, but mentoring too. The EMCC immediately struck me as the right organisation, particularly sharing the same social enterprise values as Resilient Pilot. At the same time, we welcomed Sam Sloan to the organisation as a Specialist Mentor, now a Director here at Resilient Pilot, who already held an EQA programme to train mentor/coaches aligned to The EMCC competencies and principles. Sam has provided valuable guidance and supported us during the process, while training almost 50% of our team members to gain their individual accreditations. It seemed a natural pathway to partner with the EMCC and embark upon the journey to ISMCP Accreditation.

What does achieving the EMCC Global ISMCP mean to you at Resilient Pilot?

Wow……the Gold Accreditation really highlights the hard work and determination demonstrated by our passionate and talented team of volunteers, in particular, Sam Sloan and Karen Bath who have been instrumental ensuring we managed to organise the items required for accreditation. Resilient Pilot organically developed a total systems approach to mentoring, coaching and training, gaining advantage from significant downtime during the pandemic. The EMCC Global ISMCP accreditation elevates what we do and enhances our credibility to organisations and individuals wishing to partner or make use of our services.

What does the future hold for Resilient Pilot? What can we expect to see?

As with any mentoring or coaching journey, we are just embarking upon the start of ours with a huge amount of work to continuously improve and provide a world class Resilience Development System for our aviation professional community. We are about to implement pioneering software that will provide both organisation and confidential evidence for individuals providing objective data to tailor effective training and development for both our volunteers and members. We would like to take our model to other industries in the future, advocating a competency based approach to blended mentoring, coaching and developmental training to improve resilience and performance.
